Dang-Cut Wire-What Is It?

While I was installing the SS 1.2 lift today on the rear end, I was cutting the old shocks off the passenger rear with a sawzall and it slipped and cut a white/gray wire, this wire runs along the backside of the rear axle into the rear drum brake area.....Dang, what did I cut, and any idea about the best way to fix it? Thanks for the help.

Looks like a rear ABS sensor. Not cheap. Look online for OEM parts to save some $$$.

Man, before I look it up, what is not cheap.

About $175 online for a new one, $240 and up at your local dealer.

Is it an entire line/system for that side? guess there is no way to mend the cut line?

Yeah you should be able to drive without it. You may see ABS light on the instrument cluster.

My ABS light has been on ever since the PO dropped the front end on a failed LBJ. Once I get off my lazy ass — I'll pull the bulb cause I'm tired of looking at it.

Drives fine as it is and I've done some hard braking too. Perhaps however, I'm just old enough to have learned to drive (and brake) on cars/trucks without ABS...so I don't care if it ever works again.

Plus I hear the ABS can f-things-up in the snow and ice.

I have the same question too. Is there just one wire in there or a bunch of little ones?

If it were me, and it was just one wire, I would use a butt connector and some heat shrink to make it water proof.

You know, iirc the single line is just insulation over 2 tiny wires....why would this wire not be splice-able? Just typing out loud...
To replace that wire and sensor the connector should be right above that cut, at the top of the shock mount so easy enough to pull from a yard if you can find one with an axle still in it, you won't have to dig so far to get it all out.

StreetCreeper- your speedo still works then? When I pulled both my front abs sensors the speedo would drop out on bumps then pick up again once I got near to stopping. I've fixed my speedo since, just curious about a single sensor being out.

Looks like a perfect opportunity to practice soldering. Not like you could make it worse at this point.

Yea whats going on here with all this replace the sensor talk. We are men/women made of brawn and steel. We can fix anything.

cut back that plastic and solder/shrink wrap that wire(or crimp whatever) and your good to go.

No need to replace anything, a fix is in order.

Works perfect though I'm not sure what is wrong with the ABS. The PO told me that the light came on after the LBJ failed. I've since done the brakes and didn't notice anything amiss down there, though to be honest, I didn't care at all that they were non-op, so investigating the source of the failure was not at all on my agenda.

The 2 wires in there can be easily spliced. My 2000 came with the passenger side rear spliced with no ill effects. Soldering is best, but butt connectors would work. Shrink wrap is the way to go.
