Daystar... Spidertrax... and Off Roading?

I'm a proud new owner of a 04 4Runner and obviously new to the T4R forum. I have had many 4x4s over the years and I am totally impressed with my new toy. A quick thank you to all the contributors on this forum. I have learned so much in just a short period of time. I have already upgraded to 265 75 R16 (265 70 R17) and slapped on the 2.5/1.5 Daystar Lift.

This leads me to my question. I have been using the search function and I see that T4R owners have successfully installed Spidertrax spacers and larger tires with a few minor modifications to prevent rubbing.

Example: Toyota 4Runner Wheel Spacers

This seems to prevent rubbing on the street.

Does anyone with this setup have any experience doing moderate level off roading? Even though there might be no rubbing on the street, is there rubbing when 4 wheeling?

Even though they look so good when they're on, am I making my T4R less off road capable by adding the spacers?

Welcome! It really depends on the terrain you will be on and the shoulder of your tires. If you have tires with big lugs on the outside there is more of a chance for rubbing vs a tire with a more rounded shoulder

I have same lift and tires i have been offroading some and yes you will rub some depends how hard you go.

My advice is to take it on a trail (or even flex it out on a few curbs) and see. It's not going to rip your fender's off if that's what you're worried about. My 285's rub a little with the Spidertrax but not too bad after I trimmed a little. The biggest reason I added spacers was to clear the upper control arms.

My rear tires actually rub more than the front does. The solid rear axle will really flex a lot.

Lot's of guys do plenty of wheeling with spacers and do fine. I agree, replacing the coils is better, but spacers are fine if you're on a budget.

I live in Fresno. I used to off-road quite a bit in my younger days with my 83 Toyota Pickup. Man that was a great truck... wish I still had it.

I would totally be interested in some "moderate" off roading spots!
