Deadly Floormats?

The mother was right in putting them in the LS460. The LS460 comes standard with VDIM. If this incident occured in a vehicle that does not have VDIM or a similar stability system, the accident would have been a lot worse. VDIM cuts power and applies brakes where needed to keep the vehicle in check.

What exactly are you saying SciRunner? As far as I know the LS460 put into park as those girls did would have been the same as any other sedan.
 
Funny story never thought floor mats could be so lethal in the wrong hands.

But then again a bunch of teenage girls in a car, we all know the result of that...

Every time I am out driving or riding I stay as far away from cars that are full of teenage girls, they tend to cause or get into accidents because they are too busy listening to the radio or flapping their gums

I thought that a big, rwd vehicle such as the LS, with sustained speeds of 90MPH then an abrupt "brake/shift to park" would cause the vehicle to slide and spin the tail around several times without a stability program.

My theory is that VDIM and in conjunction with EBD adjusted stopping power to each wheel to keep the vehicle from spinning around and to stop straight. Thereby reducing the chance of roll over or spinning onto an incoming vehicle or barrier.

Don't be hard on the girls.

This also happened to me and I was in a parking garage at the time.

The vehicle had just been serviced and they must have accidentally moved the drivers floor mat. I started the car and as I moved forward the car started acceleratingly on its own.

I had my foot jammed as hard as I could on the break. The rear tires were burning on the asphalt and the back end was sliding around. Both hands on the wheel for leverage. No time to reach for the e-brake. That wouldn't have stopped it anyway.

I was looking around for a wall to plow it into, but people and cars where everywhere.

I was able to get it into neutral and kill the ignition. The whole event sent my blood pressure screaming. People could have been killed.

Notice the new mats as keyed down down to the floor so this shouldn't happen.

No, you don't. And the reason you don't is because you haven't shared any stories highlighting stupidity. I was pretty damn stupid as a teenager at select times, as most teenagers are. :confused: Now I'm a productive taxpayer. Let's just hope these girls become productive taxpayers as well, or at least marry some. :love:

From what you say, you're a productive hard working dude. Keep it up and you'll be fine.

Ditto. I should say some teenagers. I know I was lucky to survive my teen years I was a complete idiot at times.
