Took my 2003 T4Runner in to have the Check Engine light, VSC Trac, VSC Off and cleared, plus have emissions test completed. The dealership came back with about 12 different issues. The 3 main were 1) catalytic converter needed to be replaced, 2) CV Boots were missing on 3 of 4 axles 3) main engine belt needed to be replaced. Stated to go ahead repair all 3 items. This was on Thursday, did not have converter in stock, next day delivery.
Friday, get a call received converter late and having problems getting emissions to pass. Next, no call for sometime, so called back late afternoon. Service advisor calls and states got bad news. While we were working on emissions the transmission line broke and sprayed tranny fluid all over the shop. The tranny line was corroded and need to be replaced. How much, I asked? Stated $1100 and don't have parts in stock, next Tuesday to get parts. This takes my total in voice for repairs up to $4k, is this insane or what? Another question being who is responsible for the transmission line breaking, service advisor states, we were no where near the tranny line. Oh, where is the catalytic converter located you just replaced? Cannot believe the tranny hose and clamps plus labor being anywhere near $1100. This is why I haven't been back to this dealership in over a year. Back in 2013, same dealership changed out 8 sensors and charged $2200, sad part is the dealer's service techs could not find and fix the original problem even after all that.
