Definitely car cover off for Storm right ?

I was thinking about the approaching storm Dorian and my car cover. The worry is all the thrashing it would do even with front, middle and rear lower straps to tighten the cover. It does tighten somewhat tight but those winds may be beyond what the straps could hold tight. I was thinking about putting blankets under the cover but it just seems they would not stay in place. There is no indoor option and I guess uncovered will have to do, what do you think.

I have extra straps and stuff but I live in Central Florida which appears to be (for now at least) the projected path. Hopefully it will go away but if it doesn't I have to decide if the tarp would be the worse than leaves small branches etc. It does have a fleece lining but that probably would not help.

Any suggestions, experiences ??

Car cover is your best option *if you're worried about branches falling, leaves won't affect anything*. Might want to try and add heavy duty bungee cords or heavy duty ratchet straps to help the cover straps out. But if all that breaks then it was kind of bound to happen anyways. If it was me I would leave it uncovered though and as far away from trees as I could. Stay safe!

If I were you I would leave the car uncovered. With over 100mph winds it would probably scratch the paint. Im guessing you don’t have a garage so that might not be a option. We had a couple cars out during the last hurricane with 100+ winds and everything was fine even though it was covered in leaves.

Thanks, that was basically my thinking. I was afraid even if I could somehow get it really tight that even one corner whipping around would cause a lot of paint damage.

Yeah if it comes loose it will probably be a very bad thing

I'm in agreement with leaving it off..if something is going to hit it that's been whipped around by the storm it will hit it hard enough that the cover won't make a difference.

[MENTION=224863]Seasparrow[/MENTION] This sounds totally dumb but if I were to be in a situation I'd be "That Guy": Pool noodles! Or even cheap mattress covers etc and basically tape/strap them around the truck.

Do a web search for "pool noodle car cover".

Thanks Reinout, but the problem insn't keeping it on, it is the abrasion that occurs as the cloth whips back and forth in 70 80 or 90 mph winds.. My thought was wet blankets might stay on and protect the flailing car cover. Pool noodles taped on or anything spaced apart I don't think would do.
