Havent had time to start an official build thread, but wanted to get this posted for anyone who was in the same boat as me. I picked up a set of Demello Offroad's Hybrid 4th Gen sliders on Craigslist for $200. I knew they wouldn't bolt on like they were designed to do with 4th gen when I bought them, but the materials alone would have costed me $150 to make my own--so I bought them.
Shout out to CrazyDubMan's inspirational build as well. He installed the same sliders on his 3rd gen--so it was nice knowing it had been done before. This thread is meant to fill in the gaps to show how I did it, and I assume CrazyDubMan did as well.
So the stock length of Demello's sliders (I think 65") are a good fit with Limited fenders. I trimmed the front fender a little on the bottom so the slider wouldn't be resting on it--but other than that the only modification I did was to cut the slider's legs down 1 1/4".
Once I cut down the legs I held up a straight edge spanning all legs to make sure they would seat perfectly against side of frame. I jacked the sliders up into place, marked where they would contact frame, removed slider, ground paint off frame, put slider back up, and began my welding. I must note, please dont weld an entire leg onto frame all at once. Start with spot welding the corners of two outer most legs, hit center legs, weld one side of each leg, and keep rotating. This will keep the frame at a more "average" temp instead of focusing all heat at one small location all at once.
