So today I went to top off my refrigerant for the AC. I bought the kit with the gauge and proceeded to fill. Before i knew it it was in the yellow of the gauge close to red part. I stopped and compressor made a weird noise and started blowing redrigerant out of a valve on compressor. Now the ac will not work and blows warm air out. Should i start shopping for a new one ?

My guess is that it never needed anymore refrigerant in the first place and you over filled it. I don't know if you ruined it or not. It might have too much fluid now and has no room to expand and contract. Might just want to spend the $100 and have a shop drain and fill properly. Can always try and bleed some off and see if a/c starts to work a little with lower pressure.

guess it wasn't cooling properly in all this Heat? I'd suggest taking it to a Pro, they're good at this stuff. :cowboy:

Sounds like you over pressurized it. Will the compressor turn on when you turn on the A/C? If not, will it turn on if you jump the relay terminals? If so then at least you know the circuit and the clutch is working. You may want to just take it to a shop that does A/C and have it recovered, vacuumed and recharged to the proper amount. Sometimes A/C in a can just doesn't work. Having it vacuumed removes air and moisture from the system. It is possible you will need a new compressor, having it professionally charged would confirm that.
Well it got up to 75 In Nj. My AC had never been ice cold. Will usually feel cold and then cycle to cool and then back to cold. By top off i meant when I had a can of AC PRO in garage . When i put the gauge on it was low , a little overs 15 lbs. I filled and kept checking the pressure . All was fine until I checked and it was in the yellow area of gauge. Compressor started making weird noise. Liquid shot out of the Schrader valve looking thing. I let some pressure off and checked it today. Seems fine , no noise and it’s blowing cold air. But it’s also 40 degrees out. So not sure what to do now. Funny thing is the passenger vents feel very cold while the driver side does not feel very cold.

One way to test is to get the car nice and hot from the heater. Then turn on ac cold with recycle mode. That will pull the hot air from the car. Worth a try if your curious.
You can also use a meat thermometer and stick it in the vent. It should cool the air a good amount more than outside temps.

Ok i did that . Got the heat nice and hot . Switched to AC and it got nice and cold. Also there is no more noise from compressor and clutch seems to be working. But I now have a new problem. I found a small puddle of antifreeze dripping from up top. Looks to be coming from the heater valve on firewall. i can’t see it dripping but there is some antifreeze below it on plastic shielding.
