Did they change the brakes?

Wondered the same thing after just driving a TRD Pro, they definitely felt better than my '14 Limited — which I might sell this year and replace with a TRDP.

Replacement might have something to do with vanity, but it's also because my perfectly good '14 shows frame rust and other chassis corrosion thanks to salted roads. Sure, it's still solid, but selling before it gets bad, before something breaks, while its resale value is still so high, makes better sense: the financial spread between old and new is, for now anyway, relatively small.

Living in the rust belt I have all my BOF vehicles rubberized undercoated. It keeps the frame looking nice and black like brand new. I'm sure some over opinionated expert is going to chime in on how it's bad for it and will cause it to rust worse blah blah blah, but that gonna be the guy who buys it next problem as I won't keep it long enough to worry about that cuz I'm vain.

Now maybe we can get this thread back on track and if someone knows what was changed if anything with the braking system to make my 17 pro not have the squishy sound, and could chime in, that would be great.

My 2016 squishes. It was very noticeable when brand new. After 10k, I don't hear it anymore and my wife has stopped complaining about it. So, either we have gotten used to it or it went away on its own.

It feels to me like they stiffened the brake lines... not that im an expert by any means, just feels like the pedal on my taco after changing the brake lines. I dont know what ?squish? you guys are talking about unless its sounds like hydraulics pressurizing? Other than that its a stiff as morning wood (the brake pedal)

I don't think trading in perfectly good 5th Gens every few years is a complete waste of money. The deprecation rate on these things seems pretty constant with no massive drop off after year 1 or 2 like you see with other manufacturers. If you sell/trade at year 3 vs year 8, I doubt the total cost of ownership would differ substantially and what you'd spend on deprecation would be saved by driving a fully warrantied vehicle. Every year I look at it, it seems to be about $400/$500 per month in deprecation though of course that number decreases with age. I've seen 10 year old 4Runners that would indicate deprecation of maybe $30-$35k max over 10 years. That is incredible. Now, do you want to hang on to it that long is another question. Technology is already a bit behind... I doubt I'll keep mine 10 years (currently for sale right now lol).

Im going to upgrade the wifes SR5 brakes to EBC slotted rotors and Green stuff pads like im running on my Tacoma. Her 14 Runner is just like the 04 Runner we replaced.

2017 sr5p and I have the wet shoe/hissing sound when I step on the brakes. In searching around it has to do with the type of vacuum system the brakes use on these 4Runners. I have learned to accept it as a quirk of the car. They stop great and make very little dust so no complaints from me.
