DIFF Drop Specs/Measurements???????????

Just as the title says, I am looking for the measurements of a diff drop for a 3rd gen.

I would like the circumference of the diff spacer as well as the thickness and the size of the hole in the center please. I am wanting to attempt to make one for my truck. If you can get me these measurements I would greatly appreciate it.

Why do you want a diff drop? It's been proven that they DO NOT fix CV angles, and out added stress on your front drive shaft...
 
I think you are going to have to take your own measurements.

The spacers are 1" tall and have a hole that the bolts will fit thru. The outside dimension doesn't need to be that big, just big enough to support the metal sleeve inside the rubber bushing. I have heard of people just using a stack of washers (I would recommend grade 8 washers, softer ones will deform over time).

Drop the skid, pull one of the diff bolts and measure it. The first step would be, find two bolts that are one inch longer (make sure that they are class 10.9 or grade 8 and rated nuts that fit). If you can find bolts, measure the shank of the bolt, this is the size hole for the spacers.

Now onto the big "diff drop debate".
I did the diff drop. Do I NEED the drop? Probably not. I think it is cheap/easy insurance. It should prolong CV life.

I dropped my skidplate. I didn't remove my diff drop and measure but as others have said you aren't dropping the whole diff, just rotating it. The rear, driveshaft side, mount is 6" from the axle centerline. The front, where the drops go in, is 7" from the axle centerline. There for when you drop the front 1" the actual axle centerline only drops .462" (~15/32") Just under 1/2". It's hard to tell what strain it takes off the CVs when wheeling and you have full droop.

Is it worth it? That is up to you. I'm leaving mine in.

Why is a diff drop bad.

The front diff only holds 1.12 liters (1.2 quarts) of gear gear oil. So in relative terms, it holds very little. When the Toyota engineers figured out the proper oil level, they had set it up so when it is at the right level, it is suppling the front pinion bearing with the correct quantity of oil during its operation.

Now, with the front diff dropped at an angle, the diff oil is all in the forward position, away from the pinion bearing. This causes the bearing to run dry during operation slowly but surely wearing it out.

Now you say, well how about adding more oil to get it at the same level for the pinion bearing. This causes an over fill issue. Lots of heat is generated, oil foaming occurs, seals blow out and oil life is cut in half.

I've actually been thinking of taking mine out, but I'm not sure yet. If you want it I would probably sell it to you.
 
Oh u have a diff drop already?!? Do your CV axles leak?

I am getting 6 sets made. I was gonna give u one.
 
Why make them? They're $30 with the new longer bolts. That's cheap,enough for my just to buy them and not make them. Just my $.02
 
I have dif drop. It doesn't help much. Maybe worth the $30.... Not much down side because it doesn't change much. I don't think anyone has had any problems from one inch diff drop

It isnt costing me anything to have them made, all I will have to buy is the bolts and lock nuts.

I dont have a diff drop and I lifted my t4R last week and am already having cv axles leaking that werent leaking prior, I just see it as cheap insurance. gonna throw on the diff drop after I change my diff fluid and then put some new clamps on the cv's to see if they stop leaking.
 
I lifted mine with OME 883's and I am leaking a little bit. I put the diff drop on form cornfed and they sell for $20 plus shipping. I am still leaking a little after the drop. Any advice to get them to stop leaking?
 
When you lift a vehicle with 200k miles on it and original CV axles, of course your boots are going to leak....
 
Both of my CV's leaked within a day of installing the lift with the diff drop. Admittedly, I had the front jacked up higher than I originally thought.

since I'm getting new axles installed soon, I am considering removing the diff drops.

So where is a good place to get new axles? And I wonder if mine were going to start leaking anyways I just helped them when I done the lift? I went with the OME 883's and I received 2 1/2" lift. I was already sitting at 20 1/2 center of hub to fender. Now I am at 23.

Clamps didnt work to stop the leaking!!!
