Diff/Transfer Case Oil Question

I asked in the Maintenance section, but I know this gets more views.

Can someone who has a v8, full time 4wd model, who has changed front/rear diffs and transfer case, tell me how much gear oil you used?

I have several long trips coming up, one starting tomorrow, and I had set out wed to change them. I could not get the front hex key bolt cracked... at all. It even started to bend hex key. I said, ok, enough of that and took it to Toyota to have them do it.

They say they did it and on the receipt it states 5.8qt used between the 3. That seems low. My estimates put it at 6.3qt. Am I wrong?

Does 5.8 sound like enough residual was left that they are all full? Should I call and have them double check? I can't do it, not now.

The book says 6.2 qts; 1.5 each in the front dif and transfer case and the other 3.2 in the rear. When I changed mine, I ended up at about 6.2 with a little less in the front and a little more in the rear.
I couldn't say that you had enough residual fluid left that 5.8 would have topped it off, but I'm anal enough that I would probably call them about it.

Ozark's numbers are correct.

The tolerance given is 0 to 5mm below fill hole, so I imagine it's possible to use 5.8 legitimately but letting the oil run until it just drips is so dead simple I can't imagine anyone doing it any other way.

lol I fill it till it not just drips out but runs continuosly out the fill plug the I know it's full haha never had issues eather hope this helps

Spoke with them today and they are a good dealership. They understood my concern but let me talk to several people who assured me everything was fine and that was a pretty normal amount they put into my type vehicle..

So. I was convinced. A very pleasant dealership.
