differential drop

I just put a lift on my 4runner 2", I know i need a differential drop for the front. I can tell , when i hit about 60 it starts to shimmy. I looked underneath and i see that it has (see pix) rubber bushing. I ordered a set of shims, i was wondering do i need to remove the ones that r on there now or do i just add the new ones to the top of the ones that r on the frame? NEED HELP!!!

Leave them, and place the spacers on top.

But that wont fix your 60mph shimmy you feel.
Those are more likely due to your wheel/tires not balanced correctly.
Or alignment/worn out bushings.
I'd start with a rotation/rebalance of your tires.

I just had them balanced, i took it to a alignment shop and they said it out abit.

A 2" lift shouldn't need a diff drop. And that isn't causing your problems, as others have said.

Here's what the shop showed me when we had it up on the lift, (see attached pix) of my boots. Both sides look like that, too close for comfort.

a diff drop will definitely help with the cv angles. the boots will live longer for sure.

but, as said above, it wont help the shimmy. a 60mph vibration is almost always a tire/wheel/balance issue.
are they new tires?
what wheels are you running? the factory Toyota wheels are notoriously difficult to balance correctly. they take a special adapter, and even then, if the tech isn't great, they can still give you vibrations.

Your suspension is at full droop when it is on a lift - it will ALWAYS look like that whether you have a diff drop or not. Go out and take a look at it when its on the ground and the wheels are pointed straight..

You should be able to just slide right under the truck to do the diff drop. You will want to support the differential with a jack as you lower it slowly. The rear mount of the differential is still attached, so it won't just drop out of the truck or anything.
