DIY Expedition rack

Mostly done anyway, need to get a few pieces of hardware.

Rhine Backbone $178 opened/damaged on Amazon. 80/20 1.5” and 3” Extrusion “Free” scavenging old Automation being dumpstered and brackets new saved from trash. Built a privacy divider in my brothers lofted apt under our house with a bunch too and used translucent tinted lexan for panels. Still have a ton of extrusion but getting to shorter lengths now. I need to get the right sized aluminum tube and paint it black. The tie downs are extra from an indoor bouldering cave I built this year. The “Angled Feet” will be on plunger handles and swivel in and against the rail to lock small stuff in.

Pretty much built last night and today for a trip camping with kids next weekend. Designed as I went. If I had to buy all the brackets I’d have been in it for the cost of 2 Prinsu racks lol.

Still need to decide if I’ll go with heavy aluminum Molle deck or what and decide on ladder. Going to order a custom Colorado Fairing as well.

System keeps logging me out but I’ll get pics up in a few. Phones taking massive pics and can’t find my Imgur app. Maybe I offloaded or something.

Haven’t been on the site in a few years. Did a major Relo and a promo to Director finally broke constant travel cycle. Look forward to catching up here. Bought a ORP a few years back now that we left Raleigh for steep valleys of NE PA/Poconos. A little easier getting up cliffs to house than my 7.3 SD 2wd. I still have that too though.

Still debating on rims for tires when I replace this year. Think she’s almost at 48k on factory. It was my suv since her 2000 Sienna is still under 100k and like new. She’s taken it over but imagine a Sciency Preppy kind of girl in this?! Took me 10 minutes to show her how 4wd worked. Now just leave it on for her when it snows. For 4 years she was just staying home but now helps part time at kids private school 45 mins away 4 days a week. EVERYTHING in this area is 45 mins away, even if it’s only 15 miles. For being NE it’s steep narrow valleys and slow going mostly.

Once I update her van to a new GX or LC I’ll get it back. Salt up here is awful. SUV is more surface rust underneath than ‘00 Sienna or ‘01 SD already. I did offer her a new GX when I bought this. She was happy with the Sienna initially.

Might be a great reason to find another Gen 1 and really build it for myself. Or maybe better a Trekker.
