Do I have the original engine?

I've never had so much questions and concerns until I owned a previously owned vehicle and one originally manufactured and sold for the US (I'm in Canada).

1. How does one know if they've got the original engine? I did get a carfax copy of the history of my T4R being over a year old and its previous 2 owners.

2. My T4R just ceased on me this afternoon and after a couple of boosts to the battery could not maintain power, seemingly a shot alternator. Which led me to contacting TOYOTA USA and Canada and none of them could help me considering I'm still under warranty due to age of manufacture and mileage (41K km). Worse, none of them had records of my VIN.

Any feedback would be welcome.

if i had to guess... say 07?

4Runner07NEWBIE, you may need to do a little research, but I bet the VIN is stamped on the block somewhere. Call toyota customer hotline for the us. See if they can help out. I doubt the motor was swapped, there would be evidnce of wrenching under the hood.

I didn't notice his screen name. Poor maintenance by the previous owner may be the culprit. I would guess that the truck never had an oil change.

My T4R is a 2007 SR5 V8 RWD. I bought it used and just had its oil changed. Here's the other thread I started before my truck ceased on me yesterday.

VIN Number

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the VIN Number located on the dash at the bottom of the windshield?

The VIN number found on the dash and on the side door is the VIN for the chassis and shell. However, I may be mistaken here, the engine number is different and I'm hoping somebody could clarify.

I have VIN numbers on all four doors and underneath the hood.

The engine doesn't have the VIN on it - it has its own serial number.

The picture below shows the location of the engine serial number (A) on the V6 and V8 respectively, and then the trans serial number (B).
