Do I need to check trans level?

I've read alot on trans fluid, flushes, drain and fills and all that good stuff. I'm wondering if I need to check my trans fluid level. Last year my mechanic did a trans flush. However, I know for a fact the fluid level was not checked. Will the trans act a certain way if the fluid is over or under filled? My trans seems to be fine, so I'm wondering if it's necessary that I check the level. Thoughts?

You're totally right. I'm leaving for a road trip next week and I'm not sure l have time do it before then. I'm just wondering if an overfilled or under filled trans exhibits any type of specific behavior.
