Do the TRD Pro rims require new lug nuts?

I plan to order these rims for Christmas for my wife. I called the dealership (just to get some information) and they said I’d have to buy new lug nuts as well. They were $10/piece. That is enough to make me rethink the whole thing. We’re they right? What about the TPMS? Can it just be added to the new rim from my old one?

I went from SR5 wheels to Pro wheels using original lug nuts and transferring TPMS/valve bodies. No issues.

Nope, you can use the same ones. I had Discount Tire swap everything over from my Trail wheels, with no issues.

$10 each is ridiculous. A set of 24 is about $30.

And no - you do not need new ones as everyone else has said - unless you want them to be a different color or something.

If you switch to most aftermarket wheels with conical lug nut seats - then yes you should buy new lug nuts. Technically the OEM ones work on both because they also have conical faces on the ends so they work with the spare tires - but they're not the right lug nut for a conical seat wheel. But - again those lugnuts are only around $30 for a full set.

My only suggestion is not to go with some oddball lugnut style that requires a special tool or key to remove. And then go to somewhere remote - and not bring the special tool. I've been there with someone broke down on the trail in BFE without a good way to remove the wheel where the broken axle shaft is. We did get the lugnuts off with a hammer and a socket, but it wasn't ideal. Don't do that.

Based on recent experience installing TRD wheels on my 4runner..do not use a dealer for tires. Why not use a tire shop? The tire shop will be more experienced with all this type work.

Yes, you can use the same lugnut. Reusing your existing TPMS sensors makes this much easier. Take your new TRD rims to a local tire shop and ask them to swap the tpms sensors and tires. Around here its $25 per tire for that work.

TPMS sensor maintenance kit part # 999-0601 may be nice to provide the tire shop. Its not at all necessary. The new valve stem grommet and washer help prevent an air leak at the valve stem. But really not necessary.
