How do I handle this with my previous shop?

Hi Fam,

Never been through this so looking to leverage the hive experience.

My previous shop of 10 years sold and the new owner(s) are shit and the mechanics are a joke.

Besides trying to convince me to buy all kinds of expensive servicing I don't need and talking to me like I know nothing about vehicles, and significantly overcharging for service ($50 for a tire rotation while getting a maintenance service)...

They beat up every single lug hole on every wheel of my $2500 wheels from presumably using an impact wrench with no extension of any kind. The wheels are "carbon" gray so on each lug nut hole, where the spokes meet the hole, the carbon gray is worn off and bare metal is showing. It's not super glaring unless you are close to the wheel ( a couple of feet).

While only a couple of years old, my wheels have a few scrapes from rocks from off-roading so they weren't pristine to begin with however they were in pretty good shape overall.

It took me a month or two to notice once the weather warmed up enough for me to hand wash the car.

Refunding my tire rotation fee isn't going to be enough, but I feel like asking for replacement of the wheels is too extreme.

A friend suggested having them refinish the wheels but said refinishing usually isn't great.

So what do I ask for for compensation?

There are shops that specialize in repairing, refinishing and straightening wheels. If there is one in your area, I would go by and see what they say.

Being that it's been a "month or two" I'd say you're too late to complain about it and them do anything, IMHO!

I don't think you have much recourse at this point tbh. A month or 2 later is a pretty long time to wait to come back and complain about damage and be able to prove the correlation. Offroad wheels are cheap, so the cost of refinishing is about the same cost as new wheels. usually around $200-250/wheel to refinish. I believe there was a thread recently about something similar at discount tire and they said it was just considered normal wear and tear during maintenance.

I do hope they fix it for you, and I don't think you are wrong, but the odds are not in your favor on this one.

Seems a tad late to do anything about it, would you be able to prove they were the ones who did it? Photos before and after? Id expect some minor scratching of the wheels when going to shops for tire service. Its just a wheel and you are probably the only one who will know.

I think this is the answer... it sucks yes, but you have waited two months. If you noticed it immediately you could have perhaps gotten something back. give them a bad google review or something stating your experience to warn others and find a better shop worth your time and $
