found sport replacement hoods fo about $130-230. Of course they need to be painted, and you need the scoop itself, so maybe close to 1000 after everything is done. But is $130 for the hood sound about right? How much would Toyota charge for an oem?

The easiest way to figure out what dealerships would charge is to go to the store locater on Toyota's site. Call the closest ones to your house, and ask them how much each one charges(since some dealerships charge more or less than others.) It only takes about 30seconds for each one, and in the time it takes to get one reply from your post, you can get prices from 10 dealerships.

I like watching all the tools that pull up to me at stop lights in their sports cars, see the scoop and want to race. A guy at work didn't beleive me until we had lunch this week and some guy in a tuned out Lexus coupe with coffee can exhaust pulled up next to us at the light, saw the scoop and punched it when the light turned green before I even touched the gas. My buddy was laughing hysterically. This happens all the time with people in Mustangs, Vettes, you name it. Anyone else experience that?

Although I like the hoodscoop, I can't say that was the reason I chose a sport. I wanted a sport for the bigger brakes (better performance & safety)), XREAS suspension (better performance & safety), color keyed trim, upgraded interior, rims & I take comfort in knowing this model has been to the Himilayas & back.

Totally agree! Performance, understated, has always been the best reward for me. Slamming a poiser

If you don't have a hood scoop and you REALLY want one, you can always drive your 4Runner into a pole and try to trick your insurance adjuster into thinking you have a Sport Edition!

The $1000 price includes (all OEM) the hood, the scoop section, hardware, insulation and painting. The sport insulation and hardware is approx $400 and the hood alone is approx $400.

Think old style muscle cars like the shaker scops on the Mach 1 Mustangs and the Hemi 'Cudas;it's really just the cover for the air filter and carb which stays put when the hood is lifted but when closed it molds to the hood and usually seals.

Duh,I'm not an intenet noob and I do know what a shaker hood is and did actually read the definition before linking. It's not like "shaker hood" definiton could be too altered even on wiki.

However, since I'm an engineer, if I had bought a gasoline version, I would have chosen a scoop-less T4R.

Is the paint on your 4Runner functional? Give me a break. He just wants to let the world know he has a functional hood scoop and you don't.

i know it doesn't serve a purpose, but at the least it is functional now.
