I'm not much into ricey body accutraments but it's factory rice and does help give it a little personality since with all the 4Runners we have around here it's nice to look a little different and byt the poll it's a well liked ricey mod.
I also consider it a passive "rice" item since it doesn't hinder performance for the sake of looks. If it truly hurt real world performance it would never go on any of my vehicles.

I hate it when it comes Detailing time
I hate the fact that it is non-functional
I hate it that they don't even offer appropiate programming so you can install the TRD SC.
I also hate that no other companies offer SC's that would turn it into a functional scoop
But, since this is not a performance car or truck, I can live with the good looks... :bigok:

I love the hood scoop it is one of my favorite things about the sport edition. Plus with a Westin grill gaurd it falls perfectly with the curves.

While non-functional, I also like the looks. However, I would never choose the Sport Model over another based solely on that (non-functional) basis. I would choose the Sport model over the SR5 for virtue of the X-REAS, larger brakes, heated mirrors, and other features. At that point the hood scoop is just icing onthe cake.
I wanted many features that were only available on the Limited and didn't choose the Sport for those reasons. (Actually my choice came down to the V8 Limited and GX470).
To pick the Sport Model JUST because of the hood scoop seems silly to me. It sort of reminds me of my teenage girls who sometimes buy and choose things for looks alone. Vey shallow reasoning that runs at odds with my (engineering) education and background. But hey, that's what marketing people count on for sales!

It is simply about looks to me. Looking at the front end with the scoop, it appears more aggressive. Now I know to myself there is nothing under the hood to brag about, but it is nice. Now the downside it is a pain to clean around, but then again so it climbing on a tire to wash the roof. Just something you have to deal with. As far as a post on the first page, but no way does that little 1" scoop affect visibility, unless there is a spider hiding in the scoop I can't see.
I'm with the "why bother" crowd... just some worthless auto-bling. Now, if someone would come out with some cool LED insert to make my truck look like something outta Knight Rider at least I'd get some entertainment from it. Otherwise it just annoys me... although not as much as the bulbous front bumper that sticks out way too far from the grill.
Here's hoping the 5th Gen is an improvement... although looking at the new LC and Highlander I'm not holding out much hope.

i got the knight rider, but i didnt put it in the scoope tho, have to get that ep911 led for that i think, but i have it mounted behing the grill, hardly tell its there, only when on.
I didn't vote, don't care either way. They look cool and all, but without being functional, I didn't really want one a) bad enough to buy an SE to get it, or b) try to find a scooped hood to swap with my regular hood. I put the money it would've taken to swap out my LE non-scoop hood on things like my WeatherTech goodies (vent visors, front, rear and cargo mats) and the electronics necessary to hook my Sirius to my nav system...likely even didn't even spend as much on all that as it would've taken to find a hood and have it sprayed my color.
I say get it if it's your thing, otherwise, eh, I can (and will) certainly live without it. Just like 99.9% of all automotive add-ons or "features", it all boils down to personal taste, wants and needs.
Now, if it were functional, and could interface with decent CAI system, and were properly designed to not allow rain water into the cowl area (genuine concern with most "ram air" systems)...I'd have looked at it a little harder maybe.
