I loved it on my Sport Edition, now I have a Limited and I'm looking for a Nautical Blue Metallic Sport Edition Hood to swap mine with. :bigok: :biggrin2:

I'm in the same boat. Used to have a 2000 Sport Edition and now just picked up a 06' Limited. I'm searching for a used hood to make the switch.

Anyone have luck finding one at a salvage yard? I've seen a few but I'm hesitant to buy without actually looking at it first.

no option for functional hood scoop...

you can modify it slightly and carefully to make it functional folks...

just 6 nuts/bolts some clipping and poof! out comes the cover....

Not the same, functional like the 60-70's muscle cars, fresh air from the scoop right into the intake, now these days with all the sensors and stuff you would probably do more damage doing that, unless it was engineered like that from the factory.

I agree, I would not want all that water coming into my engine bay. I think that would be asking for trouble. SUVs aren't race cars anyway.

I bought the SR5 because I needed the 3rd row seating, but would have loved to have one with the scoop. Gives the truck an aggressive look.

Instead of purchasing a whole new hood can't you simply buy one of the add on scoops they sell on eBay? Does anyone have one and how do they like it?

You can buy those stick-on scoops but it will look like a stick-on and probably not look right on a 4Runner hood.

A lot of people mistakenly think that the old muscle cars with functional "ram-air" type hoods actually benefitted from a true ram-air effect. While it is true that these type of scoops/hoods allowed fresh (and in most cases cooler) air from outside to enter the engine, they didn't provide any forced air or increased pressure to provide a true ram air effect.

Contrary to popular belief, a naturally aspirated engine's air is not sucked in or pushed in...it enters the engine by atmospheric pressure, which means that it is virtually impossible for a hood scoop to "push" or "force" more air into the engine. At best, they are good for allowing cooler outside air into the engine. In the old days, this was important because engines had big round air filters on top of their carburetors that ingested hot air from under the hood. These days, just about all engines come from the factory with an intake system that lets air in from the outside of the engine compartment, just to keep that hot air under the hood from being ingested by the engine in the first place.

In the future, I suppose if somebody wants a 'cleaner' body look, they could remove their nipples, as well as shave off all body hair and remove finger and toe nails. Just like de-badging your vehicle. Make and model emblems are pretty much non-functioning, and recently I'm starting to generally not like them on any cars.

So, for not/liking the non-functional Sport hood scoop, I'm just not sure any more.

i just made my hood scoope functional, alot of trimming and then it comes out great, i think this is very usefull to my trueflow xdi intake, since it sucks the air back there.

I may be able to pick up a sport hood for cheap... but don't really know if its worth it. How hard would it be to swap a hood?
My main concern is getting the the spray nozzles attached and working.

If you can brush your teeth you can change the hood.
2 nuts on each side
