I like the scoop, but that wasnt my main reason for getting an SE. The heated mirrors, interior color, wheels, and lack of bs NAV were more of a factor in that choice over the Limited.

If I can just post my opinion up here for a sec... I just came into an 07 SR5 and i'm greatful as hell to even have this vehicle in my possesion. It came with a lot of extra options, sunroof, tow pkg, 17's, 6disk...etc. My point being is that i would have love to have the unfuntional hoodscoop even if it were just for the aesthetics of the vehicle... So yes im a fan of the hoodscoop.

Um.. you can make the scoop functional .. everyone did know that right? its blocked off due to the fact that the engine can get nasty as hell witht the top exposed like that...
I pulled the face out and modified mine... looks good and I bought a new one incase I messed up which I didnt so I have one for when I decide to go moshing

i love the hood scoop but i wanted it to be functional too, so i went to the dealership got the papers on how to take it off. took it off but i wanted to keep the plastic mesh just not the back so air could get though. Soon sound out that its one peice so i put it back in and still want it to functional, but ill keep it the way it is for now.

What it's worth, even though I'm new here and have a 2gen, I like the scoop. My Nissan (sorry if I bring it up too much) hood actually has the scoop from a 3gen molded into it(always did like the scoop and older Nissan aftermarket is a bit lacking on certian items). I did make it a little more functional for cooling purposes by cuttign the hood open a little more underneath and don't have any of the "guts" in the scoop though, with no problems from driving in rain/snow/mud.

I realize you posted this almost a year ago, but I was wondering.. When you made yours "functional", how did you get around the problem of the hood scoop just funneling rain water straight into your engine? Or by functional do you mean it's a vent for the engine bay as oppsed to running the airflow directly into your intake?

Does anyone make sensors that I can install on my front bumper to keep me from hitting things.

My hood scoop blocks my vision right in front of my 4r and I am afraid I might hit another car or some other obstruction.

If I raise up my seat to try to see over the darn hood scoop, I hit my head on the too low roof and I don't have a sun roof to pop my head out of.

None of the extra features of my Sport Edition are worth driving around with that darn vision blocking, non-functional, money wasting, bug grabbing, (cool as heck), hood scoop.


Maybe I'll just take a hammer to it and pound it down flat!!

FWIW I like the look of the scoop, but wish it was functional. Coming out of an WRX with a functional scoop I feel like a poser now!

I love the hood scoop. I think it adds a certain amount of aggressiveness to the truck. As I like to say, "It makes it look more like a dude car!" It just makes it look manly.

I realize this post is almost a year old but maybe he has a turbo'd engine and it has a top mount intercooler like the surfs have...

There's no turbo on that truck and there's no perfromance to be gained from opening the scoop since all you get is a dirty engine and a dirty engine runs hotter negating any cooling gain unless you wash it daily and you might see a couple degrees cooler but more likely not.

i like my hood scoop, I would like to be doing some modification to it when I get the chance. leaving the mesh grill and adding a little air flow to the engine compartment. but I don't want I lot of water or snow to be getting into it so im torn.

Little late here, but I wouldn't have a 4Runner without one. My last two have both been Sport Editions. It's non-functional, I know, but it just adds the cool look to it.
