I just read about 'progressive power steering' (PPS) on older 4 runners.
Does the 2006 have this?
My runner is losing power steering fluid, but the odd part is that is goes through a lot some weeks and none for weeks at a time... thought this was odd until i read about PPS i.e. the engine can actually burn power steering fluid if the vacuum valve goes bad. This would also explain an intermittent burning smell i get on hard acceleration.
Its been a long winter and have not been able to get under the runner for a few weeks since i don't have a garage (or even a drive way
out: ) so not sure if its leaking, but i cant see much from my spot checks.
Hoping both issues can be fixed by just replacing the vacuum switch! fingers crossed.
Thanks for all help!
Chris
