Does anyone have experience with polsihing their windshield?

I have recently noticed some very fine surfaces scrathes in my windshield. Nothing deep or that could be caught with a finger nail, but still noticable when the light hits them. I looked at some glass polishing kits online but most recommend using a mechanical polisher which I don't own and don't intend to buy anytime soon. Has anyone had luck with a hand application glass polish for removing fine scrathes?

Also, aren't the fourth gen windshields supposed to be treated or coated with something to help disperse rain water? I wouldn't want to compromise that by polsihing it away. Thanks for any tips!

All BS aside..I do not have any expirence polishig glass. (but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night)

I am going to try this. It says by hand OR machine. My somewhat educated guess tells me you would get better results my machine though.

My uncle, who showed cars for years swore by crest toothpaste and a buffer. Not very easy to get off but his old cars had great looking glass

I've done the toothpaste thing on plastic, it worked okay but didn't get rid of all the marks I was trying to fill in.

The only way to remove scratches from a windshield, and shallow ones at that, is with a rotary buffer. Nothing else works.

Glass polish works to clear a windshield but shows every scratch it has received in its life.

If you have original Toyota windscreen with rain repelant coating - Do Not Polish it. You will remove the repelant effect because polishing scuffs it up to hide biger scratches. Just my $0.02

My (original) windshield is full of tiny sparkles, billions of them, very annoying when driving into a low sun.
I suspect it is road sand that has hit the water repellant coating over the years.

I'm tempted to try some aggressive buffing, on a small spot at least, to see if it makes any difference. Don't really need the coating, it can go if it takes the sparkles with it.

To the OP, please let us know how the special polish works. I don't want to risk a wavy or leaky replacement windshield.

Wiper streak

My windshield has some extremely shallow marks from the windshield wiper, you can't catch them with your fingernail. But, they are very noticeable and don't come off with windex. Would a buffer work with that? It may not be scratches at all, but just some really tough crap the wiper left behind. I want to put a windshield visor (the sticker kind) on there, so I want the windshield as clean as possible. Thanks.

replace it, polishing never works, glass is too hard. I have glass insurance works best for replacing scratched and pitched windshield. IN Colorado you can consider yourself lucky if your windshield survived 3 years. glass coverage cost $4 a month and they agreed to replace scratched glass not just broken or cracked. $4 covers all glass not just windshield. I replaced about 20 windshields in 12 years, never had a problem with wavy or leaky glass.
