Does anyone know anything about "Vanguard" bumper guards?

I never heard of this company before and searching doesn't come up with much. They are the only company that makes this style bumper guard like Avid Off Road for the Tacomas (Avid does not make them for 4Runners for whatever reason).

That thing is all bling and will collapse back and crush your actual bumper if you used it off road. It also lowers your approach angle and those d ring shackles looks like they're made out of paper clips. I don't know anything about the company, though, and am not sure if you want it for off road or just looks. If for just looks, that's fine, just be aware it doesn't look like it will offer any real protection.

I mainly want it for protection against people bumping into me in parallel parking spots. Drivers in San Francisco tend to park by touch.

I have an Avid Offroad bumper protector on my Tacoma and it works excellent for this. It is not as flimsy as a regular bullbar.

Your truck, your money. That OEM bumper cover is really pretty flexible and to be honest you can buy a new OEM bumper cover for $200 and have it painted for another ~$150.

Like another posted said if you really smack anything with that more than likely you'll be replacing more components because of it.

Only if Avid Off Road made this for the 4Runner, it would be better. Some people don't need a full plate bumper.

OK, for parking protection it's probably ok. But, as another poster said in here, the stock bumper covers are pretty cheap and take abuse pretty well. That's why I don't have plate bumpers (and not wanting the extra weight or cost).

Tough crowd, OP. I was looking at that exact same product. It was about $450 on some websites, but no reviews and no installation PDF to see how it mounts up. There was so little information I went with this instead. Its actually pretty nice. I removed the skid plate as I thought it looked funny and I also did not want to advertise for Westin. I went on some class 4 roads in VT and did not have any clearance issues aside from my hitch step I forgot to remove and and my nerf bars hitting the mud. Good luck. Oh, and if you do buy it and install, please let me know how it is...

The stock bumper covers are not robust at all IMO, they’re not made of rubber and they don’t bounce back when dinged. But for parking protection, especially in SF, you’ll need full wraparound protection. Those bar things are only going to get hung up on the other guy’s bumper when he takes out your corners. On top of this, any “militarized” gas guzzling, SUV is a prime target in the city. You better slap a “Wildlife Rescue Vehicle” sticker or 2 on there and hope they only break your windows.

pretty sure vanguard is based in NYC. they normally make bull bars. Seem then on a lot of other vehicles. Treat this as a bull bar. it will crush into the stock bumper.

its 30 lbs btw...
