Does the v6 model have AWD like my v8??

i was by no means arguing i was just confused on the fact that there is a 3rd diff.

As i said new to AWD also no manual and i just got my 4runner yesterday :P coming from a tacoma
 
Also to muddy up the discussion, I believe the center diff is a Torsen limited slip unit. ;): So even if your center diff is unlocked and you are off road, it won't necessarily send all the power to one wheel like it would if the center diff was open.

The only 4th gen that ever came from the factory with a locking rear diff was the 2009 Trail edition, which was V6 only.

It also had unicorn skin seats and a steering wheel carved out of bigfoot bones. Or at least I assume it does because I've never actually seen one in person. :D

No 4runner ever had a front locking diff from the factory.

Not even that much. The 2WD models get higher EPA MPG because they have less weight. For 4WD models it hardly makes a difference whether it's in 2WD or 4WD mode. There is a difference, but it's very small.

It's good up to 115mph, at least. Don't exceed the speed rating on your tires (118 mph for the P metric T rated tires I have) or posted speed limits.
 
Im with you on that I looked forever for a trail ed. Never could find one alltho i'm loveing the v8 I found . a trail end with v8 would be great I'd rather have factory rear lock.

V6, 4Hi, All the Time

.... and many of us V6 owners opt to keep our rigs in 4HI all the time. Added sense of security. I suppose if I was going on a long road trip through dry terrain, I'd click it over to 2WD to achieve the most optimal gas mileage.

Ah, ok. Yeah I wanted to make sure to prevent any damage. 4HI kicks ass in heavy rain and when I have to do work related on-road drving sometimes.
 
So my understanding is a V6 should turn lock to lock in 4HI just like a V8. My Mitsubishi Montero was like this. 2WD, then a lever to activate 4hi that felt just like an AWD Car with no restrictions. When I bought my Gen 5 I thought it would be the same. I was very wrong and found out the first snow storm. I was very pissed at myself and anyone else I could blame it on. Water under the bridge now that its been replaced with a Limited.

Where can I learn all these details? Couldn't find them in the manual. My 2000 manual wasn't much help on that vehicle either. I'm sure glad to have found this thread.

So, on my 2007 Ltd V8 4wd, I take from this thread that I am in AWD always, and that I can lock the center diff with the button. Is the turning knob on the right side of the steering wheel just a choice between Hi & Lo?

If so, the emblem on my door should read: "Limited AWD", right?

My 2000 had a locking rear diff option, but I don't seem to have that on this newer version.

Are there ever meet-ups with local, knowledgable enthusiasts? I'm in So.Cal.

4WD/ AWD always on the V8 yes. Center diff lock yes. Knob on the right from hi to low, yes (while stopped and in neutral). Emblem should say Limited 4WD. 4th gen in 2009 offered a rear locker in the Trail Edition only. As far as offroad meets in SoCal, I have never been on one from here, but Toyota120 and TTORA both have meets often.
 
This is an interesting conversation. So I just came back to the 4Runner world after selling my 03 4Runner V8 2 years ago. I'm now back in an 07 4runner v6.

I have to say I like the way the V8 drove better. I think a lot has to do with the AWD system and having all 4 wheels pull at the same time vs. my current V6.

So reading this thread it appears the V8 and V6 have the same drivetrain set up.

That being the case, there seems to be absolutely no issue with me running my V6 in 4WD all the time, correct? That would be great. Just like driving the V8 all over again...

Correct. I drive in 4WD every time it rains just for peace of mind.
