Dome light problem

TOYO 4R SR5

So my dome lights dont work at all. none of them turn on no matter what i do. however i know its not the fuse because one i checked it and two my radio works. not sure if its gonna be a problem with the wiring somewhere or?? my sunroof also does not open. i just bought this 4runner last week. 3500 bucks and only 130k miles on it. not bad for a 2000

also my ac blower does not work on any speed not sure if its the switch or the blower or if it could be related to the dome lights and sunroof

-for the record its and 2000 3.4 2wd sr5 and yes i did try searching im not new to cars or to forums. thanks in advance!

Also check your ECU-B fuse by the driver's knee. That feeds the brain that controls all these functions.

Do not rely on just a visual fuse check, ever. Use a known good fuse, or test with a light or DMM. Don't trust the radio unless it is factory. Aftermarket HU's can be wired direct to the battery.

Also check domes with known good bulbs. Two bulbs burn out at the same time frequently. Check with doors AND the switch on the lamp.

If no joy, time to start checking circuits with test light. With the domes, first thing is to see if fault is on ground side or 12V+.

My rear dome light fuse broke. and I pulled it and it honestly looked fine to me, that was the first fuse I replaced ever but it looked used but not beat up. Replaced it and rear dome worked again. replace fuse and get back to us!

Still have no idea what it could be

I've checked all possible fuses that i could think might have something to do with this issue.

If its of any use my center dome light lens and rear dome light lens look burnt. I finally got around to pulling the lenses off and checking the bulbs too as well as the fuses. I'm not sure if there are melted wires above the headliner behind the housings or not. it could be a likely possibility based on the smoke like residue inside my dome light housings/lenses.

Im thinking the ac blower motor is just done and needs replacing and is a separate issue to the dome lights.

OK, you checked the bulbs, are they good or bad?

As TheDurk said, we need to determine if your problem is upstream or down. Do you have a test light? The terminal with the blue with yellow stripe wire should light the test light. I'm betting it doesn't, if your bulbs are good.

Let us know how you checked the bulbs, and if this wire has voltage. We should be able to fix this easily.

Checked the bulbs. Checked the fuse. Used a multimeter and found 12v at the fuse and none at the plugs for the lights. However. When I was checking the fuse I pulled the fuse and found 12.7 in one side and .49 on the other side. Which leads me to suspect a melted or corroded wire thats allowing power to get to both sides. Or maybe im just crazy and need to track down a broken wire somewhere between the fuse box and the light.

I tried to get into the a pillar the other day but the screws that hold the grab handle in are frozen in place so I stopped there for now. If theres an area thats likely yo be suspect for a broken connection then please give any suggestions

I just recently fixed a connection in my map lights which was a bad connection in the plug. Try probing on the wire side of the connection instead of where the light bulb is held in at. May have to pop down the light asy.

Thats exactly what I did. I probed the connection itself and found no voltage. Although I checked the center light just above the center console. But none of my dome lights work out of the 3 I have.

OK, sorry I've been MIA. This should be fairly straight forward. You will need to confirm you have no power at the other 2 dome lights. If all three have no voltage, it narrows down the possibilities. All are fed by the "dome" fuse, but in different ways. But they share the power circuit from the Engine compartment fuse block to the driver side junction block.

You will need to remove the lower cover and unbolt the j/b to gain access to the rear connectors. In the center top is the flasher relay. One connector to the left, and one connector down is a 12pin connector (1E). Disconnect it and find Terminal 6 on the connector. It will be a Blue wire with a yellow stripe. If there is NO voltage, the problem lies between that connector and the fuse. If there IS voltage, reconnect that connector. And check the connector above it, (1A), find terminal 3, it will one of the corners. With the connector installed check voltage, it is also a blue with yellow wire. If there is NO voltage, the junction black is bad. If there IS voltage, I'll give you more to check.

I have power to the very back one but no power to the front two. I was expecting there to be no power to all three but the reason the rear one doesnt work is because the bulb holder is broken...

OK, that's progress. Now you have to go to the junction block on the driver's side lower dash panel. As I stated in the previous post, you need to check the connector 1A, to the left of the flasher. Find Terminal 3, and check for voltage, if there IS voltage, we can move to the next junction. If there isn't, the junction block is bad. I could show you how to cheat and bypass that J/B if you want, or just buy one and install it. But first, check that terminal to see if you have power there.

I pulled the junction block and quickly realized that connector 1a was not even plugged in. Now my domelights work again. But still no blower motor or sunroof which is fine at least I cam see when I open the door

Good news, Connector 1A also carries the power to the Sunroof switch, Terminal 6.

2000 4runner

We bought my daughter a 2000 4 runner a few months ago and none of the interior lights work or the radio. The only lights inside her car that work is the instrument panel. Also, the headlights work but when you try to switch on brights the brights do not work. However, if we push and hold the switch forward the brights will come on until you let go. When we replace the 15 A dome fuse it blows immediately. Any help is much appreciated.

My dome light works but it will not work when I open my doors (yes I got the light in the open door setting) it works every once in a while but not very often is there a sensor in the door or somethings that is giving out?

I'll take a stab at this.

Yes, there is a switch on the door, but there is a switch on each door. If your light works intermittently for all doors, it's unlikely all 4 are bad. There is something in common you can check first, quickly and for free.

The switch that turns the dome from on/off/door is a lever that moves a little spring loaded ball across the contacts. If it gets dirty in there it will act funny. Take the dome light lens off and clean the contacts, take the switch off and clean the little ball, pull the spring slightly so it will put a little more pressure on the ball.

This may not be your issue, but it takes all of 5 minutes and cost you nothing. Good luck.

To resurrect an old thread, I just had a similar issue. Dome lights didn't work, regardless of new bulb or switch position.
My issue ended up being the switch contact. After 20 years it just wasn't making good contact anymore. Pulled the plastic lenses off, used my ignition key to flex the metal tabs down a bit, all is well.
Check your switches, could be a 2 minute fix.

REsurection!!!

Ok. The switch works, the door switch works, the light on “on” works.

Anyone know if the body control module is wired into this?

Also is the Key FOB wire into it?
