Door buzzer stereo and clock all stay on and drain battery..how do you fix it?

Hey guys

My 1987 sr5 is having what I'm going to guess is an ignition issue. With no keys in it the door buzzer stays on, my deck and amp are on and the little clock is on too. The only way my battery won't die right now is if I disconnect it. It's probably something simple but how do I fix this?

yea most likely your ignition switch is causing it, should be able to get a new one for about 30-40 bux. I replaced one before takes about a hour.

It is like the key is stuck in ACC? Maybe try cleaning the ignition switch with electric contact cleaner, see if you can find this stuff:

I love this stuff! Works wonders on all sorts of switches! It has a very light lube in it too which seems to keep things from sticking.

Other than that, replacing the ignition lock will be your only other option, unless you wanna have toggle switches to start the 4r!

No it's not stuck in accessorie setting. Everything is running without the key in it and the doors shut. I may have to get an ignition switch like Ktm said.

the key might be out, but is the keyswitch in the "off" position?

my key can be removed at all switch positions. when you turn off the engine, do you pull the key out when it stops turning? if so, you may be removing the key with the switch in the ACC position.

you HAVE to depress the small black button on the steering column above the switch and turn the key further to put the ignition in the off position. if you don't depress the button, you are leaving the ACC on.

This. My 87 did that exact thing.

If the door buzzer goes off when you open the door, you didn't turn the truck all the way off. If you're hitting the key release button and turning the key all the way back and it still does it, then something inside the column is getting stuck and the answer is to take it apart and find out what. You might need a new ignition switch, or maybe it's just dirty.

Thanks for the advice. I will double check the black switch when I get home.

Check and make sure you depress the button.. and its off.. i did this when i first got my yota never owned a vehicle that was quite this old. So i searched and found my answer.

My 87 does that too

If everything checks out and it's not stuck in your acc position and its not the ignition switch, and if you can't find the problem, you could try and wire in a toggle switch to close off those circuits, but It's been a while since I've done any work on that circuit, I'm not even sure thats possible
