Door lock actuator went to hell

Driver's door lock actuator crapped out.

How expensive is it to replace if I go to the Yotamonger?

Truck is off warranty, obviously.

If it's too much, I'll bite the bullet and do it myself, but I don't have the time to be pulling panels all day.

I've already replaced two of them on my 4runner under warranty but also replaced one in my sister's car. Ordered the actuator through camelback toyota for around $280 and it took me about 45 mins to instal. It was pretty straight forward, took my time to make sure I didn't break any clips.
 
I'd get a new actuator (or if you're feeling industrious, a member tore down an actuator and replaced just the motor unit) and install it yourself if you can; it's not that hard. I do them every now and then at the dealership (seems since about 2010 the actuators have had a dip in reliability or something...)
 
$5 vs $256 door lock actuator repair.

Was quoted $256 for new part, labor not included. Check out cas234 on youtube.....I have a 2013 4R SR5 and his video is dead on what to do. Part was 9.95 with fast shipping off eBay from mopselectric. Did both driver and passenger, took an hour to do (wasn't in a hurry)......there's also a nice tip on the forum in regard to replacing the window strip (I'll try and find it again if anyone interested).

My drivers door one failed just before the extended warranty expired. So it was covered, I had the dealer change it out. According to the invoice it would have cost $248.44 for the part and $147.23 for labor, total $395.67.

That was back in July of 2015.

Interesting, it looks like the motor is very close to the same "drop-in" no solder units Toyota has used in their power mirror assemblies for a while... will have to take apart the next actuator I replace, see how similar they are...
 
You are correct......in researching the motor I found reference that it is the same. No practical knowledge of that, just what I read.

If someone gets that motor replacement, post up the info for that Mabuchi motor for us! I bet you can get that same motor for about 3 bucks online if you know what the actual part number is!

Mabuchi motors have been used in mirrors for a billion years now! My '85 supra has 'em in the mirrors, I had one bad many years ago and just pulled it out, looked up the mabuchi part number and bought it from a hobby store for a couple bucks. Still working today!!!

I took apart a 2001 Camry mirror assembly to fix my step-dad's LX470 mirror. The motor was physically different in shape (the '01 was a bit more rounded at the end where the shaft was, the LX470 was more square and had a longer worm gear than the '01) but it fit right into the LX470 unit after I swapped worm gears (I could have used the shorter one, but I liked the more than 2 tooth gear engagement the LX worm gear offered). So the design has changed a bit since the mid-90's~'05, but they all basically function the same. Hell I'dd go to pick'n'pull and just scavenge some mid-90's to Newer Toyota mirrors, you'd only need one or two mirrors to get a whole set for all 4 doors. :)

But if you guys find the part number for the Mabuchi motors, that'd be awesome too! I'll see if I can find a bad actuator at work next week to tear apart; a lot of them get done under warranty so the parts get sent back, but we do some under extended warranty and customer pay.

The options used to be standard and long, so I assume the 10mm is standard and the 20mm is long, so you would need the 10mm. Also you need the flat shaft.

Dont waste time calling the dealership, they can only sell the full actuator assembly and not the motor inside so they'll have no idea
