Door switches lock, but wont unlock

98 SR5 4x4 Auto.

Last night I took pulled my steering column off to do some work on it. I installed everything normally including all harnesses, etc... the keys were in the ignition so I could move the wheel freely.

Once everything was installed I did a bone headed move and shut the door, then connected my battery. the doors automatically clocked. So I called triple A and the guy opened up the passenger door with a tool.


Now I'm not sure if its because of that...but now both my door switches will lock, but unlock button wont do anything.

I also noticed that my doors do not unlock when i turn the ignition off and pull the keys out (used to do this fine before last night)

I've searched high and low on here but to no avail. I've even tried a few things from old threads with my fingers crossed. seems like everyone has the opposite problem as me.

I should also note that the car may have a factory or aftermarket alarm on it...but I cant confirm. i don't have a key fob...just use my physical key to get in and out.

Anything you guys can recommend?


Summary:
-Driver and passenger door panel switches lock, but do not unlock
-driver side door will unlock all doors when turned to the right twice (normal)
-passenger door will NO LONGER open all doors when key is used to unlock (not normal, always worked up until last night)

It sound's like the body control module is out of sync because the door was opened without the key being turned.

I would start by disconnecting the battery for about 5 minutes (with the key out) and see if that straightens it out. If not, maybe try doing the reverse of what you did to get here. Lock yourself in and have someone lock the door from the outside with a spare key or something like that.

The body control ECU remembers whether it locked the doors automatically, or you were the last one to lock them. It only unlocks them automatically if it gave the last lock command (I assume for security purposes), so there's some logic going on behind the scenes that is probably in a situation that wasn't anticipated and programmed for.

Was this resolved? 2nd day owining a gen 3 and I’m years deep in threads. I love it.

Having same issue. Original owner told me he replaced the hatch and ever since not able to lock or unlock electronically without ignition on.
