Double Cab Tacoma vs 4Runner

thanks Stanley, you the man! No wonder you originate from such a good area! Maybe some day this 4runner will make it back there.

Yea all it needs is seat covers (leather is nasty on drivers seat) and CV boots maybe I couldnt tell...but yea saving a ton of cash...and way prices are out here I can drive it a few years and dump it for nearly what Im paying, or when I moved just take it and the RUbicon with me and be a happy hilljack somewhere else with two vehicles with lockers....and now the major difference is I will take this 4runner where I take my Jeep, if I got a 4th Gen for $18-25k, there is no way Id be wheeling it other than fire roads. What the heck with this thing Ill take it on Jeep trails :-)

Coolant fluids changed, brand new brakes, plugs, wires, sensors, the guy was a maintenace nazi, had records, showed me everything he did to it, had info for dealer to call and check..but I will double check with my mechanic as well so thanks for that advice! And ill get back on the 3rd Gen forum I left a long time ago giving up that Id find one under 200k miles, with a locker, at the right price! Finally...and good timing, right before I went nuts and took a $30k loan out or more for something new!

Picking it up today at lunch time...then straight to smog (a Cali thing), and then to AAA to register, and call my insurance to change the Jeep to weekend recreational vehicle only!

Then gotta stop by my mechanic to see about the CV boots....then check into some used seats and a carpet kit!

Post pics when you get the chance!

Congrats!

see if these still work:

Toyota : 4Runner | eBay

Interior isnt pretty, thats why I want to find used seats and new carpet....body isnt all pretty either but hey its gonna be in the beating Cali sun, parked on a college campus, and driving in LA/OC traffic, and hopefully some tight trails...so Ill leave the paint fade and dents as they are!

Sure does! Sounds/looks great and the guy seems very honest.

Little carpet cleaning, new seats, wash n wax and you're all set! (After you situate the CV's and smog).

Good find and good price!

Thanks! Smog down, Cali DMV having issues today so AAA told me expect 2 hour wait (and thats AAA not a DMV!)....so Ill have to register it Friday..

Yea I think Im going to get new seats, and just clean the carpet. Heck Ill get it dirty anyways (hopefully) and its my commuter vehicle :-) CV boots or new axleshafts Ill tackle next week, with oil change, and check the front diff and t-case fluids. He has records of flushing the coolant and rear diff recently.

Its a stick shift, should I worry about changing fluid in a stick shift tranny?

But yea hopefully I can score some cheap seats and get a detail job, and be on my way.

Might as well change that manual fluid sometime in the next couple months for peace of mind. (Afterall, if I were you, I'd be planning for another 100k out of her!)

Good idea, I probably will do oil change, tranny, check front diff and tcase, and get the CV boots or axleshafts done soon...

The guy with the cloth seats on CL I offered $400 and he said no way....$800 for used cloth 4runner seats seems kinda steep to me, and not worth paying right now for a rig I just paid $6500 for....Ill deal with crappy cracked and torn leather for now I guess..its a commuter! Wish the guy would be worth dealing on the seats.

Go to a salvage yard for yota's, i know theres some out in SoCal, you should be able to get a set for less than $800, thats ridiculous, COB bought a bunch of stuff at those yards, i'd PM him for info on them...

Thanks DJohn...where in CT are you? I did my first masters at UNH, coached at Yale, and was a cop in Wallingford and East Haven. A long time ago!!!

Good advice. Yea the guy must be a car shop related business, emailed me he could do it any week day 8am-5pm......probably some rich person got leather seats installed in a 4runner and gave him the seats, and now he is wanting $800...they do look pretty in the pictures hah...but $800 is steep...

He will come down to $650 installed.....I think its an auto shop that probably put in leather or other fancy seats for someone and got these free or cheap, and since its in a fancy part of LA he is just waiting to make a chunk of cash of some rich folks who have it and dont care....

But, the pictures look freaking amazing and they do look new....i thought $400 was a decent price....he emailed me that a decent set of leather seats for a 3rd gen 4runner is $1500 easy, so this is a bargain....well id never pauy $1500 for seats haha....Ill put old cowboy blankets over the dang seats for that price...what do you guys think, counter at $500 and hope he does it? I sense the guy is possibly a little uptight and greedy.
