Pretty sad that the whole thing has been politicized on both sides of the aisle. How nobody is even interested in investigating the possibility that it came from the lab in Wuhan is beyond me. People shout, "I believe in the science" and proudly tell you the lab idea is a conspiracy. The Chinese government blocked the scientific method from being conducted to test that hypothesis. Indicators are fairly strong that it is a viable hypothesis that a lab, with a biosafety level 4, which studies these types of viruses and just so happens to be right where this virus cropped up, may be the culprit. Immediately after outbreak, journalists were banished and all foreigners were kept out of Wuhan. At this point, any evidence that could cause one to arrive at the lab conclusion has been scrubbed so an investigation is relatively pointless. There are a lot of reasons to believe that the lab hypothesis is stronger than the wet market one. If you believe in the Chinese government or the "Fact Checkers" to dismantle that one, you don't believe in the science. It just allows you to make an appeal to authority so that you don't actually have to explain anything.
I'm hoping that when those that voted the current administration in inevitably realize that all of their problems have not all of a sudden been solved, they conclude that the government cannot and should not be the answer to all their problems. I'm not real optimistic about that though... I think it's more likely that people will conclude that the wrong person was wielding power. They're also likely to point to the biology of his corporeal form as the root of the problem. There's a certain level of arrogance that people have in thinking that if they wielded the levers of power, everyone would be better off. Those same people, and the current movements, also seem to have a moral superiority complex where the ends justify the means as long as you believe in the "right" things. Their moral superiority, in the name of equity, allows them to exercise as much power as necessary to reach their utopian dream. I'm not sure how, when something is screwed up, the answer is always more government. There are very few politicians left that have enough backbone to say, we are not the answer to your problem. Instead, they're incentivized to sell the dream so that they can wield the levers of power. Then, every 4-8 years, 50% of the population cheers them on to usurp more and more power without realizing they will probably not like the next administration, who will then use that power to do away with the previous. It's been a vicious cycle and very few principled actors have even identified it for what it is. If we continue to increase the volatility of the swings between administrations, conflict is inevitable at some point. Principled arguments have given way to extreme tribalism on both sides. Both sides are getting nearer to a religious zealotry that, given enough power, they can reach utopia.
