Durable suspension lift kit

I want to install a durable lift kit, after some search my choice lean toward Eibach Pro-Truck and Bilstein 6112/5160. I'm I on the right way? Better alternative? Which one will last longer and perform better?

How much lift do you want? If only a small amount, then the leveling kits that only use spacers are the most durable -- there is nothing to wear out. I got the Rough County leveling kit which gives 2.5" front and 1" rear.

Agreed on the “the simpler is better” “KISS” approach.

Another thought was that for your suspension to be durable you need to match it to the actual activity.

Carrying 300lbs of tools to the job-site via a gravel road? Carrying a winch up front? Go with a Dobinson's uprated strut, shock,spring kit. (This is what i have, 200+ up front, 500+ in the rear)

Doing whoops and dunes each weekend at Oceano or Glamis? Dobinsons/King/Fox bypasses to keep your shocks cooler over many, many cycles.

Mostly daily driver and some light weekend wheeling, carrying very little extra weight (no skids, sliders, tent, etc)? Quality spacer kit for sure.

One thing i have not mentioned is budget. I would council you NOT make your choice based on budget. Consider saving up if you need to, to get what you need. This “Buy once, cry once” mantra has served me well on my last two 4x4 builds.

I considered both of those kits. I couldnt find enough user feedback to sway me towards the Eibach kit. The Bilstein kit with their national backorders simply couldnt be found in my timeline. (Good kit, though)

I went Dobinson’s for several reasons:

1. Mike at exit offroad is awesome. Great customer service- answered all my questions
2. Kit is highly recommended and well reviewed on this site
3. Kits allow you to choose from many options at purchase for your specific use, including KDSS/non-KDSS ( some kits dont even mention if they’re KDSS compatible)
4. My kit was in stock and available. Bought and shipped within a couple weeks.

I've read enough rough reviews on the 5160s due to leaking that lead me to the Bilstein 5100 set up with a spacer in the rear. Bilsteins are known for good shocks so I felt like this was a durable, reliable option.

That being said, my use is DD, long-distance road trips, family around town travel, and some challenging dirt trails here and there. Also, this is my wife's DD.

So, I wanted a slightly more stiff ride than stock (more stable), a noticeable lift, and nothing crazy cost or component involvement-wise.

Bilsteins 5100s, set at 1.75" up front with Cornfed 1.5" rear spacers was perfect for me. When I tow or load the car up completely, I air up the AirLift 1000 airbags in the rear to maintain rake and ride comfort.

My one other friend with a 4Runner says ours drives leagues better than his stock set up and I completely agree.

For durability, the less you have to modify, the better. Small lift = no CV compromises or UCA issues.

I had a TRD Pro Suspension kit installed 2 years ago and broke both coilover springs up front this Summer after less that 10,000 miles. No abuse, I think the Toyota coils had defective metal. I didn't want to deal with a warranty claim that could have taken months to resolve so I just swapped it out for this and could not be happier. Its a great kit.

I've had Eibach springs, 5100's, and JBA uppers with a .75 cornfed spacer in the rear for about 30k miles. I have rokmen rear arms and a lot of poly bushings too but the basic suspension setup has been bulletproof and it's my DD and sees some dirt too. It also handles SO much better than stock.

Another vote for Mike at ExitOffRoad and Dobinsons, Mike is great and Dobinsons IMS are butter smooth after a 2 week settle in period. Easy install and couldn't be happier. My suspension twice as nice as factory, don't feel like its gonna jump lanes if I look away for a second and braking is amazing now. Do yourself a favor and get new UCA's and if you have KDSS get the Treaty Oak spacers, super easy install.

Definitely looking at Dobinson, I also want to install UCA's just didn't make a choice for now and yes I will get KDSS spacers, I start taking info on Panhard rod extension brackets too.
