Duratracs VS BFG KO2

I have the 285 KO2s on my Tacoma and had the first gen KOs on my 4Runner for years. They are durable and tough. The KO2s ride great on the hwy and at speed they are fairly quiet considering the tread design. I took them through 8in of snow last year and they performed amazing.

Thanks for the input! Does anyone have any experience with Nitto or Toyo A/T's, they are a pretty good looking tire also! I'm going from Michelin's to whatever I end up buying. The Michelin A/T's aren't aggressive enough (look wise anyway). I'm always on pavement, so I'm just trying to toughen up the grocery/kid hauler! LOL!

Just know going into it that those Michelins will last longer and be better for on-road driving than any tire you are considering.

Nittos are garbage and wear quickly and unevenly. You are definitely just paying for the name and not the product

This is my second set of Michelins, they have been great tires. I'm getting close to 150,000 miles and caught the mod bug(thanks to this forum, LOL). Looks like I'll be leaning towards the KO2's. If I'm going spend a grand whats another $200 to get a good set of tires.

I'm pretty happy with my Duratracs. Haven't had them in snow yet, but did have them in some slippery as snot mud and they managed to get me up a hill without being aired down. Great traction in rain as well.

Since this thread got bumped, I'll add that my Duratracs did awesome in 2-6 inches of fresh snow going up steep hills without airing down. In fact I was the only one out of 5 that didn't have to air down to do the hills we were on.

Nothing personal but what I came across in research was the Duratracs are very finnicky when it comes to balancing. :hiding:

No problems with mine, but I heard the same thing. Was worried about it initially but so far so good. I've got about 10k miles on them now and they still look brand new.

I have the 18" limited wheels and I was planning stepping up to a 265/65R18. I would like to go up to a 275/65R18 or 275/70R18, but I'm afraid they might rub too much. I'm leaning pretty hard on the Duratracs, still undecided on the size though. I'm gonna keep trying to search this forum and figure out the max size I can run. I don't mind trimming some plastic.

You won't even come close to fitting the 275/70/18 without a lift, the 275/65/18 might fight with major trimming and no lift, but you should be good with the 265/65/18. I've run all 3 sizes over the years.

In my opinion, the BFG and Duratrac are comprable. I like the looks of the Duratracs better, and I think they have a slight edge in the snow over the BFG.

Thanks for the input. I just installed my Daystar 2.5/1.5 and it sits way higher than it was before. I think I'm going to try the 275/65R18 KO2 and just get out the saw.

For your use either will be sufficient. I'm a diehard BFG KO user after getting 115k out of my first set.

I have no problem admitting I drive a lifted 4runner with AT tires on the street 100% of the time. I never offroad and the KO2s are incredible tires in all conditions.

OK, I'm not sure I can take your post serious considering your avi pic, did you really get 115,000 miles out of a tire. If you its driven on the street 100% of the time, how do you know they are incredible tires in all conditions.

Current Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires are nearing the end of their life. They've been decent tires but I do not plan to buy them again. Pretty crappy in the rain and snow/slush/ice even when new! On the highway and off-road pretty decent.

I'm between the KO2s and Duratracs as well. Seems hard to go wrong with either.

I'll have to check out my local preferred tire shop and see what's available in both for 265/70/17. I'm running 265/65/17 but want to go one size up.

for me I steered away from the duratracs because of the week sidewall and soft rubber, here in Phoenix they just wont last. Cant say nothing about the bfg ko I never had any, but I did have some other bfg all terrains on another vehicle. did ok off road but the tread nubs tore off pretty easy. I did allot of research for my 4runner and went with hankook dynapro mt, couldn't be happier, will be buying another set in a few months, got about 40k on them right now.

I have the 255 75 r17 Duratracs and Im VERY satisfied in snow, offroad, and street driving. I live in Denver and drive on them on street conditions 90% of the time but theyre always ready to go whenever I want to get into some trouble. Theyve also been great in the couple of snowstorms weve had so far and also the resulting 2 weeks of ice on all of the north facing streets.

I will say that they are a bit noisy, but I have gotten used to it and in reality arent that loud, just much more noticeable than anything Ive had before.
