E-locker Q?

Just wondering what models of 4Runner came with the E-locker. I heard they were only available on the Limited Runners from 96-up. I was looking to get a 5 speed, but also wanted the factory locker. Any info would be great.

It was available on any of them but it was most common on the SR5s and the Limiteds.

The best year to get is the '99 with 5 speed and locker since '99s have taller coils (and most of '00) and updated interior, headlamps and a few other conveniences.

Here's a year by year breakdown of 3rd gens and their options

I believe Toyota stoped the 5Speed for 99.

I thought all 2000 had the taller coils/e-locker.

I know mine does!:awais:

2000 was the last year for 5 speeds and the rear diff lock but the taller coils carried over for most of the '00 model year but later '00s have the '01 coils which were about 1"shorter.

man... for toyota to install that e locker... wow, i dont even want to know what they would charge you to do that... i mean, wow...

it would honestly prob. be cheaper to buy an ARB air locker and ARB air compressor than install the e locker, unless you happened across an axle with the elocker installed....

That site provided with the differences in model years is wrong, I have a 2001 with the e-locker which can be engaged in both 4 low AND 4 high.

You have a center diff lock which is not the same as the rear diff lock Toyota did discontinue the rear locker after the '00 year.

The rear diff on the older models can only be locked in 4lo but there is a mod that makes it lockable even in 2wd and I did it.
