hey guys, owned my 97 5 speed for a few years now, got it bone stock, have modded it to kingdom Kum now. but i noticed the wired connecting to the plug on top the locker have been pulled out, probably due to off roading. but in order to repair it i need to take the locker off. i just want to know if gear lub in the diff is going to come out. id rather know now so i can drain it. but if i dont need to, id love not to. and if anyone knows, is there anything i need to be especially aware of?

You will definitely lose some fluid, so before you do anything, make sure you crack the fill plug. The last thing you want is to find out the fill plug is stuck AFTER you've drained the fluid.

Are you talking about the locker or the actuator? If it's the actuator that will easily pop off the diff and you won't lose any fluid, maybe a drop or two. Sounds like the actuator because that's where the wires and plugs are.

Yeah, the actuator unbolts, then pulls right out of the housing. Be careful pulling it out though, it's a tight fit and has an o-ring in there that can get pretty stuck over time. Mine was pretty corroded and the face plate broke when I was pulling the actuator off.

Here is what you're looking at with the wires...

Oh, it's the same. There is only 1 stock locker on 4runners.
