E-locker seized

Advice please for a '97 ltd with e-locker. I was obviously lax in not engaging it enough and now when I want it, it refuses to engage.

I can hear the servo motor run in the diff when I throw the switch but the dash indicator blinks and never locks up.

I've tried 'S' turns forward and back and toggling the switch in and out but no love.
I presume this now is a case of removing the motor and freeing up a locking pin of some sort?
Any tips, hints, problem area's to watch for or take exceptional care with? I really like the diff lock when clawing through the snow

Hit the actuator with a metal hammer while engaging/disengaging...

No seriously, I've heard this works from other threads- Its worth a shot!

Disassemble the cap and make sure the magnets have not come unglued. Do you live in a state that uses a lot of ice melting solutions on the roads?

There is no shortage of salt/deicer where I live. I guess the only way is to get under there and check it out. I've never had one apart so I am uncertain what to expect.

Is there a gasket to replace upon disassembly?
I'll get a look at some pics somewhere before I start so I know what I am up against.
I'm just being lazy by not researching what would answer 50 questions I could ask and I am sure its all covered elsewhere on this site

O-rings instead of gaskets.

Can be stuck on the studs and not want to slide off. Be very careful when getting it off, the plate that faces the axle commonly cracks or breaks. Be careful about prying!

Be careful of two small metal balls at either end of the shaft, they like to run away. I have seen some that are discs instead of balls.
