They'll do the job just fine. Definitely agree with coating the back side of it. I'd probably use bedliner instead of paint though.
 
I have been looking for awhile too, this is the best deal I have seen. But I am wondering if this bumper will fit my 1999, I think they are all the same, but in the description it says 96-98. Anyone know for sure?
 
I bought both front and rear bumpers from that seller on ebay. great price. got to me reasonably quick. quality is pretty good. They difinately took some fanagling to get on, holes weren't all perfect but it did go on, and it looks good. No HUGE gaps or anything like that, but there are some minor gaps where the pieces meet.(might be my fault, I had no extra hands, might be able to get them on with no gaps.)

Definately coat the back with something. If your brackets are rusted out, sure go ahead and replace them. I think that seller also has brackets.

Also, as far as i know the rear bumper didn't change at all from 96-02. Might want to wait for someone else to chime in on that one though. Front bumpers did change but i have seen them retrofitted-don't recall the differences.

Hcurphy - did you get the 3 piece kit or did you just need the middle? I noticed there is one pinhead-sized dot of rust forming on one of my corners but I am thinking I'll just get the middle because it literally has a hole in it.

Free shipping is pretty amazing on a bumper too.
 
You guys are so lucky you live in the US as having stuffed shipped to Canada is a complete nightmare. I heard someone bought front mud flaps for $40 something dollars from their Local dealer in the US. I just called my local dealer and they are $60.00 EACH. Does that not seem excessive?

Diet Coke and aluminum foil is amazing for taking rust off these bumpers.

Won't fix holes, though.

I bought all three pieces for the rear. I only needed the center and the passenger side but it was cheaper to get all three. (my truck seems like a massive electromagnet sometimes- i've been nailed in parking lots a lot.) edit: I didn't notice the pun at first, but not that I have PUN INTENDED ^

I should also probably add that I bought the primered ones, not the chrome. I was trying to de-chrome my truck. So, I guess I can't speak of the quality of the chrome pieces but I was happy with mine. Way cheaper then OEM and I can't find any runners in scrap yards around me.(Not to suprising I guess :) )

Good luck to you buddy. Get an extra set of hands when you go to put them on if you can, it's not necessary but sure would help.
 
I replaced the center section on my 97 Runner about 3 years ago now. My side pcs were good so all I needed was the center. The brackets were in good shape too. I went to the Toyota dealership and ordered new bolts as the old ones broke off and were non-existent in some cases. So it made the job a lot easier. Also did primer and painted behind it and now was behind there whenever I go to the car wash to keep it clean.
What I also did was when replacing the bolts put Superlube grease to keep them from rusting as well.
Might do the front one if it goes bad. It's easy to remove as well.
