ECO light?

I test drove a TRD Pro at the dealer this weekend, was overall pretty impressed with it. Will probably go TRD with the premium package, just to have a little quieter ride with less aggressive tires.

Anyways -question I have is I noticed an ECO light appear every so often in the Tach area. Is that some sort of drive mode? I didn’t see a button to deactivate anything.

Thanks!

It just lights up to tell you that youre not pressing the gas pedal very hard. You can disable it very easy in the display menu.

Good, thanks! Because it was annoying....

Yeah it was the first thing I did when I picked mine up. Disable that damn green light. I just wish the Eco bar would be disabled too. Seriously though, the thing has no economy whatsoever, why even bother Toyota? Who are you fooling? EPA? Driver? Tree huggers who happened to buy a 4Runner?
:wtf:

Some trivia on this.

In the US the light just goes on and off to tell you if you are at low engine load and trending towards good mpg.

But the ECU is stuck in an eco mode throttle mapping at all the times. Supposedly overseas, turning off the eco mode allows the actual throttle response to go into a normal linear mode and the truck feels much more responsive.

Here in the US, owners often install a sprint booster or other device to overcome the awkward eco throttle mapping.

On the older models like my 2013 I think you need techstream to turn it off; which requires a trip to the dealer. If you're lucky they won't charge you.

I have a 2011 and it can be turned off via the Odometer selection button....

Can someone walk through the steps? Don't see that option in my owners manual. I have a 2015.

The light can be turned off by going in the setup menu on the gauges. The eco bar has to be turned off with techstream.

Your car needs to be stopped or parked to access this menu. Hit the DISP button on the right side under the phone controls. Keep scrolling until you see the SETTINGS menu, then find Eco light and turn it off..

Funny you mention this. Last year I rented a car in Portugal. I drove all the down the coast 300+ miles. I thought it was the worst car in the world. It could not pass cars on the highway and the throttle response was terrible. Generally European cars have much lower horsepower but this was just dangerous. Then I found the economy mode was enabled. The moment I disabled it, it was like driving a completely different car. Night and day difference. I was so happy I disabled the Eco mode. I just wish, our 4runners would respond better after turning off the Eco light.
