I agree.... A lot of dealers here in NY really don't like to mess with older trucks."well if something ELSE breaks while we're in there then we are married to THAT problem as well" is what i was told. since i said that the indie guys are almost as expensive well you get the point.
They tested one solenoid(at the time i didn't know there were 3 of them) and it tested "good" I went to check prices and was told on the side that the techs there "really don't have experience to deal with older trucks" I was suggested to go to the bigger shop further away..
i have a 97' SR5 and yes i believe that from i've been told the ECU is almost never the issue.

Exactly! The only thing that's been supposedly confirmed is the harness and resistance of one out of three solenoids. All it says he really did is check for debris. It would have taken five extra minutes to pull them all out and test them correctly. That's the easiest part.. I'm sure that code could be thrown if one of the other two solenoids aren't functional..

Yes, lots of folks have changed solenoids on here. I personally have not, but I changed them if I had issues.
I agree your local shops seem to be terrible in your area. It's such a shame.

I think that if the Techs were given training they would be eager to help out. I overheard one guy saying that they're not getting training on older vehicles. That doesn't make sense to me but ok....They also don't want to work on older trucks when it gets down to it...
The Service manager acted like my mileage was like ready for the heap.

I let you in a secret. Only the bosses in the dealerships know what's going on. Sadly, a plie of techs are just turning wrenches.
For example what happened to me years ago.
I even signed a paper leaving my gas pedal alone in my 2009 Tocoma as there was a recall, and the fix was to cut a 1/4 off the bottom.
It was in for another recall, and they cut my pedal off. I was livid, to say the least. They didn't bother to check notes or nothing.
See, it's all about $$. They get $$ for the recalls.
Even though I requested they didn't do that. They did it the next time it
was in there.
Granted, they did offer to buy me a replacement gas pedal.
But I didn't have them change it because they cut it off again thrj charge Toyota a 2nd time on the same truck.
I lost my faith in dealers a long time ago.
I am sure there are a pile of good techs that work in dealers. I don't doubt that. It's just sad that I can do a better job, and I work on my own rigs..
