Educate me on T100’s

I have stumbled on a ‘93 T100 4WD that I am kicking around as a possible father/son project. the asking price is great it runs but has been parked for a few months which sucks but at least it’s not years it’s been sitting. The body is in fantastic shape. My biggest knock on the truck from what I have seen is somebody pulled the steering wheel off and put some tiny aftermarket steering wheel on it (typical 90’s) and the clamshell over the steering column is busted behind the turn signal lever. My coworker who scouts and buys cars for restoration shops on the weekends has given it a giant thumbs up.

My biggest worry is finding parts I can’t seem to find much online. Rock Auto and the likes included, the local salvage yards don’t have any and everything needs parts at some point. The reviews on these trucks seems to be good. I just remember them when they were new as small and not selling real well but back then I didn’t care much for Toyota’s so I don’t have a fair opinion on T100’s and up until recently I haven’t given much thought to them.

Has anyone here here owned one or know of a good parts source? My son turns 16 in a little over a year so this could be a good starter vehicle that I don’t think will kill my insurance rates to awfully bad.

If I'm not mistaken they share a lot of parts with the 2nd gen 4Runner (1990-1995) and that might include the steering wheel peices you mention. Also this truck is a great candidate for the 3.4 swap. A lot wider frame than the pickups and 4runners. The overall front suspension is the same as pickup and 4Runner I think with the exception of longer axle shafts.

Might seem tough to find parts, but being an odd duck type truck and knowing how Toyota recycles ideas and parts as often as possible, you have more options than you realize

There are T-100's all over southern Oregon. All 5 gen's and someone told me he has seen the Hilux around here. It is Toyota country.

You are very correct about Toyota sharing parts I did not think about that.

Anybody here ever own one or currently own a T100? I am seriously considering picking this up after the first of the year. I like the odd duck factor 4reak show speaks of. I have seen some nicely redone ones searching the interwebs. I just don’t want to bite off more than I chew
