Effects of a lift on a 4Runner with some miles

I want 3 more inches (ha!! story of my life!) however I have heard from various sources over the years that CV joints/ u-joints can fail in relative short time after ride height changes on a given vehicle after significant miles are clocked.

I have, in the past, installed sport suspension on many of my performance vehicles without issue however the drop was usually no greater than 2". I have never considered a lift on any of the trucks I've owned so, admittedly, this is new territory for me.

My 4Runner is currently at 156,xxx miles. Do I need to consider setting aside $$ for CV/ u-joint failures after the fact?

Check outs ARKs Suspension Options/FAQ stickie. Should answer your questions as to what's needed in addition to lifts.

As for what I understand the CVs are good for about 200k maybe more depending on driving style. Adding a 3 inch lift does put a fair amount of stress on the CVs. Also depending on tire size. ie 3 inch lift with 285s would be about the max our CVs can handle with acceptable angles with out adding a diff drop and other things. Hope this helps.
