Engine bay cleaning tips

Somehow I broke the power steering reservoir return line plastic piece the hose attaches to. Probably working and accidently hitting it. I didn't notice until the fluid mixed with dirt was all over my engine after a short drive and the pump started struggling. I replaced the pump just in case I caused damage. Any safe effective methods to get my bay clean. Mostly concerned with electrical connections. I think wrapping them with foil would work to protect them. Yes I know they're weather packed but just being safe. Anything else to be aware of? Appreciate any tips!

I used to loathe cleaning the engine bay but I’m okay with it now. I use a spray bottle with soapy water and a detail brush, and just work my way around the bay section by section. Rinsing with a low pressure hose once in a while. Using high pressure to try to blast the oil off is what causes the problems. You just have to zen out and get it done.

The biggest thing is don't spray your alternator directly or use too aggressive water pressure, Don't use foil for electrical connections, use plastic bags

Now that's a sexy bay! Now I have to get mine like yours again. I also have the radiator and condenser off at the moment because most of the grime is down on the block so I can get to it easily. I'll zen out and take it low and slow with a brew or two. Thank you and the Captain for your responses!

I do this, but dont drive it, let it drip dry then use a rag for the remainder. Theres also Citrus 9 or whatever its called, works about the same but smells like oranges.

A boar brush definitely goes a long way in helping to agitate your spray cleaner of choice before rinsing off with a garden hose. Makes it a lot quicker and more effective.

Simple green and low water pressure here, light scrub brush

1. let engine cool down
2. simple green or whatever cheap/mild foam cleaner
3. super low pressure wash or hose.
4. let engine dry itself by driving around block after wash.
