Engine Rebuild vs Swap Cost

Any way to get the contact details for this person who is local? I'm looking at getting a new motor for a 2007 4runner sport v6, the existing one has 245K miles.

What to do?

So I have a 96 SR5 2WD, I love it as it is a daily driver and my asphalt stomper. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place as there are 2 options I am considering and trying to see if anyone has done option 1?

Option 1: I do not offroad at all (Had a Jeep and got that out of my system), however, I want my 2WD to still be decent on gas and look badass. This is my favorite style 4runner and even though it has 250k miles on it, it still runs like a champ. I want to swap the engine out for something with more HP, repaint as it is very weathered and clear coat is basically gone, and change the interior from nast green to tan. Small 3" lift (just new larger suspension all around), grill guard, light bar and new style headlights/taillights.

Option 2: sell it and buy a FJ.

Just not sure what all the cost would be for option 1.

Are you saying that you have a green interior? Pics please...

For the lift, there are about a million options...I just bought a complete lift from Toytec.

For the paint, again a billion options.

For the engine swap, Just a few doable options. Supercharger, Turbo, 1UZ-FE, 2UZ-FE, 2JZ-GE, 2JZ-GTE, LS-1 thru 10...All require lots of custom fabrication except the supercharger.

I gotta see this green interior...I may even swap you my Tan...

I stand corrected, it is more of a teal/green hue and off blue but I hate it.

you have the 'rare' blue/gray color... I actually love that color. I covered my tan leather in a blue/gray cover and it looks nice.

IIRC it's not a common option. and the darker dash should help in minimizing windshield reflection of the dash...

The pattern is interesting... correct me if i'm wrong... but I'm wondering if you have a sport model (hood scoop) if so, you have an even more rare option on interior color...

that's cool!

Negative on the hood scoop. However, the guy I bought it from 5 years ago said someone had swapped out a couple of things many years ago like a front side fender and possible more.

I cannot stand the interior lol. For one, there is a metal bar on my right back as the seat is so worn. I just want to find all tan and black to put in it if I keep this thing. If I decide to sell "most possible" I will let you know if it would be something you would be interested in.

Trying to resurrect this thread

Hey guys, new here but not to wrenching on 3rd Gen T4Rs. Anyway, not mechanic, but did my own timing belt job and realized that my crankshaft is bent (Short Story). Tried a new harmonic balancer / crank pulley, didn't work so I know its the crankshaft.

Not many options for me, as stated earlier in thread, will cost me $$$$ for either Rebuild ($4500 quote) and a engine swap from a Stealership ($7K). Opting not to go those routes, but am looking for someone in the Saint Louis, MO area to assist when the time comes. I have the majority of the tools that I need (excluding Engine hoist).

If any of you are interested, or know someone who might be, I can compensate with plenty of beer and food.

Get a JDM. I'll never trust a rebuilt 5VZ that was sold at an affordable price. It doesn't add up. Rebuilding a 5VZ is a nightmare compared to pop's old cast iron straight six.

If it were me I would pull the heads and if the cylinders don't have heavy scoring I would consider rebuilding it your self. I did a 90% rebuild on my 2001 Sport. I had the heads rebuilt pulled the pistons replaced the rings and honed the cylinders. There were a couple of pistons with scoring so I replaced them with others I had ( they are lettered for size ). I replaced the rod bearings only because I had them out there was only light wear in the Thrust area on the rods so I felt the Main's were ok and after 14,000 miles I have no problems. :moon:
