Engine surges when idling

Thank you Jreask, I will have to try this, it sounds like what happened to me. The weird part is I started with a high idle, after cleaning first 10 miles were hit and miss in terms of idle. Parked it, went for a drive it felt more powerful idle was right at 750 drove like a dream that was about 1 mile. Parked it again and after that it has had a very inconsistant and high idle (usually around 900 but sometimes up to 1600), I have a new MAF and a very well maintained engine (new spark plugs, wires, belts, cam seals, valve cover gaskets, etc...) I guess I messed up the IAC I will try to clean it in the manner you described.
Do I need to remove the throttle body and get a new gasket for it again?
Should I do the TRD gasket upgrade if I do it?

Just make sure you do a great job of cleaning it. The FSM says to get a new gasket anytime that you remove the TB. I never did. I just was real careful pulling the TB off and then removing the gasket and clean it also. If you tighten the bolts/nuts a little at a time, the old gasket should be fine.
I'm not sure if the liquid in the IAC is what screws it up or if the carbon that loosens up clogs it. Either way , a good cleaning should make it work properly.

My CEL (check engine light) came on for the first time in 18 months of ownership and it was fault code 'P0505 Idle Air Control System'. I'm glad I came across this post. Maybe a cleaning is all it will take.
 
I'm without an IAC and from what I understand this is the cause for failing TPS's unit on SC'd Tacos. Sadly my throttle position sensor (TPS) along with the thing on the other side are tuned and cannot be replaced independently 4Runner 2000-2002. The older 4Runners have a 3 wire connection and mine has a 4.....no cheap option. I do have another motor 3.4 that I'll swap the throttle body (TB) for and see if that helps.

Surging in park

My 4Runner has been a mess. Recently replaced plugs, wires and a coil. It is still jumpy and surging in park and up to about 20 mph. I also bought a cheap tps online to replace the old one. What can be causing this?
 
I made this video 5 years ago. Watch the others from me and it comes down to mine needing a new idle air control valve. I had a 4 cylinder and still have that throttle body and bad idle air control valve. I replaced with a different tb and valve.
