Exhaust modifications and tuning

I would like to swap out my muffler and I am just making sure that no tuning is necessary with that change. I heard from a friend that Toyotas can be finicky when you mess with the backpressure. Please tell me if I am being misinformed or not.

Thanks and happy Friday

To my knowledge, no tuning is necessary! Mod away with that exhaust.

No problem. Besides, tuning on these machines is rather difficult from what i gather, not like your typical JDM sportscar etc.

Yeah I'm coming from the VW/Audi world which is apples to oranges. I'm not going for big power.... just wanna make it sound a little more beefy and also turn that tail pipe to the side so I quit sucking my exhaust fumes into the cabin.

I came from a similar world lol, so i know the feeling. I'm looking at possibly picking up the Gibson side exit exhaust, to help with fumes and make less of an obstacle for wheeling. It's reasonably priced and sounds good. Check it out.

Anyone seeing any mpg increase or is it negligible? Sorry for the thread jack but also curios. I am also looking to drop in a new muffler and not doing a full CBE, like the OP.

I've heard guys see a slight bump with a full cbe, but you won't notice any change with just a muffler.

I have a Borla cat-back and I noticed zero difference in power or mpg.
Do you have a snorkel as well? (Assuming that's your rig in the avatar pic) Notice any difference when now that you have both, cbe and intake?

With the snorkel I’m get about 1mpg better fuel economy.

Super 40 flownaster sounded the best so far. Be sure to 90* it behind the right rear for a touch of back pressure or you might lose your shift points. That’s the only thing that happened to mine. Added a 90 and they sinked back up.

That's awesome info, thank you. Could I bother you for a part # on your muffler? A buddy of mine has a shop where we will do the work but if I could bring a muffler with me that would be a big bonus!

I went with a 22” mangaflow and put a 90 in. Sounds good. But not as good as my 4th gen v8 with Flowmaster and all the resonators removed.

When I get back up the hill I’ll get what I can off of it!

Sorry homie, I don’t see a part number at all on it. This is all I got lol. I can’t remember which size it is but I think it’s the 2.25” center to center in/out.

Measure before you buy!
