Sorry to bump such an old thread... but figured I'd keep it in one place.
So I've noticed I've been getting quite a bit of chips in my less than a month old TE as I drive up to work. I was wondering how well this type of wrap protects from further chips, etc? Has the finish faded at all over the years? Lastly, so the the wrap doesn't show the pitting from the chips, would they need to be filled before installing this?

Not sure if it protects from chips or not as I haven't taken it off yet but pretty sure it would or has.
In 2 1/2 years ,it's faded some with a few stains from bird poop but not that bad and you would have to look for it .I'm going to change it this fall as I have another sheet they sent me as the first one that I have on had a seam mark where it was the end of the roll that eventually came out anyway...... I guess what I meant to ask, was if you noticed the 3M vinyl scratching or chipping (similar to paint) when it receives impacts from small debris? I'm just curious to see if if this would be a solution to help protect my hood better, with the bonus of reinforcing the hood under wind like you mentioned. Thanks!

FWIW, the vinyl does not seem to last the way a paint job does. I put the 3M carbon fiber stuff on my front grill piece about a year ago, and it is already cracking and showing wear, especially on the areas where I had to heat it more to apply due to the curvature of the surface...it is certainly possible that I didn't do it right, but like Harper, I went onto Youtube and also watched a guy locally install it for my "education" on how to do it...
Anybody else attest to this?? Harper, how's your hood holding up?
And, now that Metal Tech painted their rig orange, I guess the original question in the thread has been done...

I'm glad I found this. The glare from my fake hood scoop is killing me if I'm headed in the wrong direction. I haven't been able to to find any precut vinyl for just the hood scoop for the 5th gen. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Has anyone put the matte black on a black 5th gen? I've got a black LE and have thought about installing the matte black on it... just can't get myself to pull the trigger.

I second this.. I love the Spruce Green Mica on the Tundra's and Taco's. I also love the Pyrite Mica (brownish desert color). The BF has a Pyrite Mica TXPro Taco and I'm super jealous! They put both of these colors on most of the other Toyota's but not on the Runner. They definitely should have done a TE in both of those colors! At least give us the option, even if its extra $$ I would have gone that route..
