F...k My head hurts. Suspension help if you please

F@CK... I swear, I'm about to finish law school and my head didn't hurt this much!

Ok, I have a CBI rear bumper inbound, 240lbs (with swingout) I have a set of boxes in the back approximately 50lbs. So, 300lbs constant.

I want to avoid lift because I don't want to start messing with control arms, they are expensive!
I don't mind lift, just nothing that is really more than 2 inches or so (my understanding of the height limit before control arms become an issue)

I have KDSS.

I am thinking (because there have been a million threads on here already);
- Bilstein 5100 in the rear
- Bilstein 6112 in the front

What I don't know is which springs for the rear. Is there anything that is less than 3 inches for that weight?

Any help is appreciated!

check out Dobinsons thread, unfortunately i don't know what part number you need, but they will respond to email very fast. Tell them what you want and they will set you up with the part number for the best spring to match.

I would go with this coil set for the rear.

Your rear lift height has nothing to do with your front control arms so even if you went a little higher than 2", you would be totally fine.

You have a good amount of weight back there, I feel that would be an ideal spring to use.

Thank you, I will take a look. Yeah, control arms, gizmos, etc. :bowl: lol, I just want to keep my cost down by just changing what I have to and avoid having to do extra! Or twice :thumb:

I run that spring (2895), or at least the 4th Gen version of it on my truck and I don't have anywhere close to that much weight back there permanently but it still drives very well. When loaded with gear and passengers the headroom of the heavier spring has helped with load and stability.

Unloaded in the city, it's still stiffer, but in a good way. Less roll.

I'm surprised they don't make a 2896 for a 5th Gen? It probably still fits, but don't take my word on that. If it does, it probably gets you a little less than 2"

For 4Runners carrying approx 330lbs of extra equipment at all times, provides approx 2″ lift when loaded.

Link from the 4th Gen section.

Haha, you want to avoid lift but don't mind lift and say control arms are expensive after buying a $2k+ rear bumper?

What did law school finals do to you??!!

lol, yea maybe I should wait until my thoughts are put back together :p.... Just ignore me, I have a 12 pack to finish. :nerd:

I want to avoid lift if possible, if I have to then as minimal as possible... Yea, thanks for trying I see that my questions are jacked up.

Definitely check out the Dobinsons thread, most spring lift height and weight options out there.

Lift, spring, UCA and trailing arms

The reason to lift is to allow bigger tires. The tires get your differential and frame off the ground and provide more clearance than anything else. As soon as you lift the front 2" you need the UCA for improved camber and alignment.
If you lift the back 2" you will have a serious rake issue. It will look very nose down and it may drive poorly. That's why you need to lift the front too.
As you lift the back it's the trailing arms and track bar that need to be changed out. Those 5 bars cost more than most UCAs.
ICON also makes a 2" spring. It's the spring rate or weight capacity you want to consider.
Get your first law practice job and save for a month or two. You'll be able to afford the whole package. Good luck. :reddance:

Springs set ride height, shocks don't. Get bigger springs to compensate for the extra weight. Shocks are fine.
