Factory Receiver Hitch Hardware

Anyone know the thread size & pitch for the two nuts welded in the frame box for mounting a factory receiver hitch on a '98 4-Runner?

Based on trying new bolts it does not seen to be either M12 x 1.75 coarse or M12 x 1.25 extra-fine. Fastenal shows an M12 x 1.5 fine but I do not have one to try.

The threads on the removable piece of strap iron with the two weldnuts for the front two holes are M12 x 1.25.

Hard to figure them using two different sized bolts or thread pitches for this but who knows?

I have extra bolts left over from mine (2002), I think I purchased from mcmaster-carr.

I will see what I have tonight.

Well I know that the two in front are a 18mm socket to take off and the ones in rear are a 19mm socket. It confused me too that they were different.

Follow up question: The hitch bolts to the bottom of the frame rails. Is there a bracket which bolts to the top of the frame then wraps around the side then under the hitch as well?

I have pictures of the brackets. Be very careful not to spin them like I did. I had to fabricate new ones.

The bolts I used from Mcmaster-Carr are m12x1.25x30 P/N: 91180A716 and nuts m12x1.25 P/N: 91415A235

anyone have a diy on how to remove the factory tow hitch? the mounting area for my rig is rusted and i can't seem to budge those blasted nuts on the bottom the 18mm and the 19mm.

There is no factory hitch on the 3rd gen 4runner. But to remove the bolts, you should use a long breaker bar (24" is great) or stick a pipe extension to the tool you have now and those bolts will move (or break).

I'm also interested in this old thread, but more regarding the bolts. I'm going to be removing my rusted hitch and replacing it with another that I'm going to get from a junk yard and paint. Left railing is missing the 2 Welded bolts, and right railings bolts are cut.
