Fan Under the Passenger Seat

Do u guys know why is that my break light comes on and off on my '97 4runner .....

I know it's old... but same problem

So I know this thread looks to be like 6 years old but I came across it on a random google search (gotta love 'em).

I suddenly seem to have the same problem. I've had the car for almost 10 years now and never once realized this thing under the passenger seat until today somehow when it started making noises, even when my AC was turned off. Is it definitely the rear heater fan? If so, is something wrong with it and how do I stop it?

That the blower fan for the rear heat & AC passengers. You can do 4 things. Easiest 1st there's a small harness that you might see looking around under the seat u might be able to reach under and unplug it or remove seat by unbolting it & then unplug it. This supplies power to the fan. 2nd u can pull the switch I out if the center console & unplug the harness there. 3rd replace the blower fan unit urself. 4th have a garage replace it for u. That's ur options its up too u.

Or you could:

A) Check the fan switch on the back of the center console. Turn it off.

B) If it is turned off and the fan still runs, pop the hood. There is a fuse block next to the battery. Look for a 10 amp fuse marked "RR HTR". Pull it out.

Take it apart and clean and lube it. Then only turn it on when you are cold.

I love cranking front and rear heat and riding with the sunroof open in winter.
