Fat Bobs Coilovers

Since the Toytec kit I ordered is back ordered I am starting to look for other options. Anybody with experience with these CO's fron Fatbobs? Seem to be a bargain for $649 with the diff drop.

Toyota 4Runner 3" Adjustable Coilovers 1996-2002

Thinking of pairing these with LC coils in the rear. Still researching on what shocks for the rear.

They look like the same ones that are on ebay for 499 and 40 shipping if you search for tacoma coilover and I've been curious about them too and can't find nything on them.

They make a set for the 2nd gen Tundra I know several people are running and are happy with. I am going to call them today and get a little more specific information. Mostly curious what the spring rate is. Probably go over to TacomaWorld and see if there are any reviews over there.

That little 3/4" rod/shockspacer/undersizedhorribleideathing between the lower shock eye and the body of the shock just looks like a fail waiting to happen. That alone would deter me from running them.

You get what you pay for... Btw, that pic they have looks like one for a 4th gen. Typically 3rd gen's don't have that "rod" part at the bottom.

If you look at most 4th gen shock you will see that. It is needed because the toe rod ends, sway bar and axles loop around that shaft. So by having a smaller shaft ( does create room for failure and discourages woman.). I think it should be fine

Yeah they pretty much are identical to Toytec's design. That's why they have a pending lawsuit with fat bob's. I've talked with the guys from fat bob's before and it sounds like they can sell them so cheap because they have the adjusting collars manufactured in China, where as Toytec's machined products are all made in the USA. And it just has a stock style top mount on it and Toytec's design comes with an anodized aluminum top mount. I'd agree with JWaldz about the picture not looking right. The top mount has the bump or bulge on top. Our 3rd gen top mounts are flat like this:



My best guess is, this is the style they are trying to mimic. Pictured below are Toytec's 2nd style of coilovers for third gens. Fat bob thinks the consumer won't be able to tell the difference so they are just using the same pic as the 4th/5th gen 4runner, FJ and 2nd gen Taco coilovers.

You can buy just the coilover kit from toytec that uses your stock top out plate and you assemble them yourself. Saves a lot of money. They charge about $100 labor just for assembling the coilovers which is in teh price.

Spoke to them on the phone about these about the only thing they could tell me was both struts and springs were made by American companies and the spring rate is 650. With the limited info on these and not being much of a gambler I am going to go for something else. Plus the 650 spring rate is a little stiffer than what I would like ideally.
