Anyone have any experience with the following:

Toyota Rock Assault Rear Housing

Rock Assault Rear Axle Housing

Not having much luck with finding a mechanic on long island willing to weld in a new plate over the leaking pumpkin housing of the rear axle nor am I having much luck with finding a southern axle. Price isn't bad on this axle so I'm thinking instead of buying used just grabbing this swapping out parts from the damaged axle and calling it a day.

I remember reading somewhere that a Land Rover diff cover welds perfectly in place of the Toyota one once you cut it off.

You might have to google around for that one though.

So the problem with your idea is that I'm having a hard time finding a mechanic/welder willing to give that a shot. All I keep hearing is just to replace the axle with one from down south! Problem with that is that i'm pressed for time and dont really have the time to research and beach time is right around the corner!

so you're in a rush? The reason nobody will do it is because there is no material there to work with, you might start welding a new cover on and just constantly be blowing through the thin metal.

A different diff cover plate is a cheap alternative, but you still have a rusty rear axle at the end. You might just have to find yourself another one.....

Try car-part.com it's a site for sourcing used parts from auto wreckers all over north America. It's how I found my 2.7 m/t 4wd engine harness, there was only one that I could find (what a challenge!), call the wrecker with the stock number and have them ship it.
 
If you want you could try calling texmex auto salvage in Houston, they may have a part on the shelf.

I've ordered parts and had them delivered before with no issues.

No I haven't, I lived in Brentwood for 10 years (96-06) & used to go to Smith Point every weekend during the open season from 99 to 2003.
The only reason my truck isn't rusted to shlt is because I took it to the car wash right after coming off the beach & ran an oscillating sprinkler underneath when I got home. That salt water will get ya!

My friends though I was crazy wheeling a brand new truck, but that's what they're made for right!?:rockon:
 
I bought this truck 2 years ago and the previous owner did a good job of cleaning the axle so I missed how bad it was rusted. Whenever I go to the beach I bring it home and wash it myself then the sprinkler underneath for a half hour. Always amazed how much sand would be in the driveway! Lol. You

So I tried calling this guy and he told me they only have American cars no toyotas!
 
On yotatech there is a list of Toyota junk yards , I get parts for my truck all the time shipped here . Toyota jims just shipped me some thing the other day . I bet if you tried you could have a complete rear diff shipped to you for around $500 .

What the hell, I can promise that he does have yotas there, I was looking at a couple the last time I was there. He must have been busy, I'll call around and check for you.

What exact rear end are you looking for?
